Sometimes you don't have time for a full size smoke.
Today I wanted a smoke but didn't want to commit to a full hour plus. A few nights ago Karen smoked a Tatuaje Noellas and she could not stop talking about it and how much she liked it. So today I had one thinking that it would be maune a 30 min smoke at most NOT!
I was getting a nice aroma from the body once lit. I have stopped smelling the body of a cigar unlit because they all smell like cedar. I mean c'mon, we keep them in cedar boxes or in cedar trays so it makes sense they will smell like cedar, right? I have noticed that after lighting I get much more interesting aromas from the cigars than post light. Example... Pre light, it smelled like a cedar box. Post light I get notes of a mildly sweet almost mocha scent.
The flavor is not bitter, not sweet, not overpowering and not weak. It's initially very even but I can tell it might get interesting.
For now I'm getting some woodsy notes, not heavy, really subtle but they play nicely with the aroma and in a way makes you think this might be a flavored smoke but it is not. A few nights ago Karen kept saying how she was smelling something chocolate and we all thought it may have been someone near by us smoking a flavored cigar. Now I know it was probably hers.
I'm getting a bit of pepper, a little nutty but not sure what kind. That aroma from the body is still very pleasant and may be having more of a positive effect that the flavors.
As I hold it and spin it between my fingers I'm noticing it's well constructed for a small cigar. It never mattered to me but for the sake of noticing its a triple cap design with a nice deep brown wrapper, a little veiny but not bad at all. Better than most small cigars I've seen. It's burning well and the draw is damn near perfect. That brown wrapper has a nice sheen on it as well. Its a nice cigar to look at while you smoke.
I do like this little smoke and though Karen called it a mild smoke I think it's bigger brother might be a nice medium to full cigar. Looking forward to that next time I can get my mitts on one of those. I had one before but it was cigar #2 and that is simply a disservice to most smokes.
I'm just short of halfway into it and it's very consistent. I do think I'm starting to pick up another flavor but I cant quit place it yet. It's a kind of dry flavor. I've never put a fistful of coffee grounds in my mouth but if I did I'd say it would be similar. Not gritty of sour but more of that wistful coffee taste. Like when you first smell ground coffee and hope it tastes like it smells (which it rarely does). It's enjoyable!
A little after the half way mark and Id swear I just bit into some dried fruit on that last drag. Something mellow, not sweet. Yeah, I took another and its a little more present now but I still cant place it exactly. Maybe a tail mix with a smooth tasting nut (yeah, I giggled when I wrote that) and some rasins maybe!
I really need to get out and eat some different things to build a better reference for my pallet. There's something here and I can't tell you what it is but its worth it. Most small cigars get hot and ash tasting and this one is not even close to that.
I had to step away for about 10 min to do some food prep but coming back to it its smoking just as good and maybe a little better. A little stronger but those aromas and flavors are still there. At some point the burn got really nice and even. Impressive for a small stick. Ok, Maybe only to me. I just imagine that most cigar mfg dont put that much effort into the small sticks.
I didn't think this would be more than a 30 smoke but at just under an hour at this point this little stick smokes like a big boy.
That fruitiness is gone (short lived) but those dry flavors still abound. Im getting more of that ore nutty flavor again and those aromas are just not giving up.
I don't have much more to smoke here so I'm going to give this a thumbs up and a must have. This would be a great after dinner almost dessert cigar. I believe it would pair well with a light coffee or even a less intense beverage. It would be a shame to mask this cigars flavors with anything heavy.
Total smoking time took about an hour but that was with me taking slow draws and thinking about what I'm tasting. Just go smoke one, I promis it's worth it!
