  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Yesterday afternoon I was doing some cleaning and repairs on some of my critter's cages out on the deck. It was a gorgeous, sunny day and really just screamed for a cigar. So I obliged and pulled out a Tatuaje Petit Cazadores Reserva (PCR) from the humidor.

The PCR is a 4 x 40 Nicaraguan cigar sporting a dark, chocolaty, oily Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper that smells of barnyard and spice. One sniff tells me everything I've heard about these must be true. Seams are tight, barely visible and the cigar has a firm feel throughout. The foot is covered, which gives this cigar a classy look.

The cap cut easily and the draw was just a bit tight, but given the covered foot that's about right. The draw didn't carry much in terms of flavor, just a bit of slightly sweet tobacco.

Took a little bit to get lit owing to the covered foot, but not anything I hadn't expected. On the first puff I suffered a ninja attack on my palate :ninja:. A strong amount of spice, followed by a slight leathery, woody flavor and followed on the finish with some pepper. In the smaller vitolas there usually isn't much in the way of flavor changes as you smoke 'em which can be good or bad...in this case it was good .

About a third into the cigar I realized my stomach was churning a bit...oops, forgot to eat lunch. Don't be fooled by this sucker's size, it's a potent, flavorful sumbitch! While the cigar started off burning slightly wavy, it's been maintaining a near razor sharp burn and churning out smoke like a porn star churns out curse words. I must say that in every Tat I've smoked, the construction has always been top notch .

As I smoked and did my chores I had to stop, sit down, and finish this baby. The spice mingled with the leather and now a dark chocolaty flavor was hitting the spot. The spice seemed to change some too...at first it was a cinnamon-like favor, then I could have sworn it was more of a nutmeg or allspice, then it seemed to be slightly cloveish at times. Just writing this review is making me wish I had more.

As I got into the last third and then some a harshness crept into the stick, I think from smoking a little fast...it's hard not to when you like a cigar this much. At any rate, purging and forcing myself to slow down took care of it. This cigar finished much like it started...strong and flavorful .

Overall (if you couldn't tell) I really enjoyed this cigar. It held up to everything good I've heard and experienced none of the bad that a few of the reviews have reported. But, if full strength cigars aren't your thing then you're likely to be blown away and not in a good way. The best thing about this cigar to me is the price. They come in cabs of 50 for around $200.00 (though you can probably get a better price if you hunt some I'm sure), which puts them at about $4.00 per stick. I don't really have room for 50 cigars (even if they are small) nor an extra couple hundred bucks lying around so I won't be able to pick up a box in the near future (though I would if I could), but even 5ers on these puppies are reasonable. In summation...great construction, great flavors, great price why are you not already getting some??

Thanks for the review Dan, really a great little marvel of a stick. I'd considered doing a write up on one of these little powerhouses for quite some time but in the end I always put it off, glad to see some more attention paid to the smaller vitolas.

Great review Dan.

These little treats are one of my favorites when you want big taste, but only have little time.

I know what you mean about smoking them too fast. Seems I always smoke the ones I like too fast. I need to buy these sticks more often, seems like I never have enough time to smoke a bigger stick.
