Tatuaje Frank
Tatuaje Pudgy Monsters
Prelight - This particular cigar has been sitting in my humidor for about a year. There is beautiful oil sheen on the chocolate brown wrapper. A faint black pepper is detectable on the nose. With a cocoa powder note twisted in with the spice for the finish. Clipped with a xikar Xi3. The pepper is noticeable on the draw, but there is also a light raisin. I recall that observation from the last one of these I smoked as well.
1/3 - 9:35
Thick smoke, and plenty of it, with an oily mouth feel. The pepper is much more complex and subtle then the smell suggested. Retrohale is a smooth with a very slight bite. Leather is noticeable, and that light raisin is present on the finish, those are the flavors that are most prominent at the moment.
The draw has perfect resistance, and the burn is superb. Pepper has come up and leather is on the finish. No strength at this point and the body is a solid medium to medium-full. I still find the raisin after the leather, it is easier to find after the cigar has been retrohaled.
2/3 - 9:56
I love the progression of flavors this cigar has. Pepper remains dominate, the raisin is gone. There is a slight cocoa coming up toward the finish. The leather is down. This profile is holding pretty consistent. The body is still not quite to a medium-full, and still no strength. Again the smoke is really thick and leaves a delicious mouth feel.
3/3 - 10:17
Ash just fell off again, it is falling off every third almost exactly. Very sturdy in that regard, as for the flavor profile, cocoa is up. The pepper has gotten bolder, this is very apparent on the retrohale. It is not noticeable on the draw, because it is very balanced with the cocoa. The body has reached medium-full and there is a little strength becoming noticeable.
Strength has come up to a low-medium as I reach the nub, and cocoa has finally surpassed the pepper.
10:41
Conclusion: 89
I have enjoyed this cigar twice before. I definitely look forward to it every time. During the month of October it seems fit to smoke the monster line by Tatuaje. This particular cigar is found in the pudgy monsters box. I wish Pete would produce this cigar regularly, however, the fact that I can look forward to it in the box of Pudgy's every time makes it special in my mind.
Allright let me know how you like this, I am starting to get more into the reviewing stuff. My question is how necessary is information on the history of the cigar and region of the tobacco. I would love to put that information in but then it forces the information to grow in size and i am trying to keep the reviews relatively compact.
