  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Tatuaje Reserva SW Maduro

Got these in a great trade with Matt (aka orangedog)…Thanks, Bro!

(Skip the next paragraph to get straight to the review)

Very sad yet inspiring story behind these cigars.
A good friend of Pete named Paul passed away in 2009. Paul wanted to create a maduro version of the Reserva SW with a maduro wrapper for his store Sabor Havana Cigars in Florida.
After Paul passed Pete finished the cigars and sold them through Sabor Havana with all profits going to support Paul’s family.

The story in Pete’s words can be found here: http://www.botl.org/community/forums/showthread.php?t=26074

These were produced in a limited run of 200 boxes.

Country of Origin: Nicaragua
Wrapper: Conn. Broadleaf
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Size: 7X47

Prelight
Nicely wrapped in a smooth, slightly oily wrapper. The cold draw gave up pepper and dried apricots. The foot provided notes of orange peel and pepper.

First Third
Lit easily…Great draw, with just enough resistance to provide tons of effortless smoke. Core tobacco and spice in the background with white pepper and orange peel up front..
Nice solid ash with beautiful figure, and a remarkably thin burn line.

Second Third
Steady dose of earthy tobacco and spice with a long, enjoyable finish of steak and pepper.
Background included notes of orange peel and burnt wheat toast. Reminded me of a cross between a Henry Clay and a Romeo Belicoso….Really enjoyable.
The burn was just perfect…No need to grab the lighter.
When the solid ash dropped, there was a perfect conical cherry, further indicating top notch construction.

Last Third
The same flavors continued, but the orange peel faded as the profile grew stronger. A bit of oak darted in and out. The extremely long finish had an unmistakable note of pepper encrusted steak…Really nice. The burn remained just stellar.

Closing
Another top shelf Tatuaje, made even more enjoyable with the story behind it. Medium to full bodied, with a great flavor profile and excellent craftsmanship.

Thanks again, Matt :)

Great review as always, Clint!

I have one of these in my humi and I can't wait to give it a try.

I didn't know that story behind their production. That's really cool.

nice review Clint, glad you enjoyed the stick! I didn't pick up on the orange that you did so I might have to revisit this one sometime this week and see if I can't tease it out.

I'm certainly behind on our trade reviewing... I owe a head to head on the S&Bs... although at this rate it might be a head-to-head-to-head!

Pretty sure CBL.
You guys are 100% correct...Edited.

Great catch...Thank you!

Funny...I sometimes go to Brooks' site to just grab the particulars, such as ring, length, etc. and he has it wrong as well!

I'll PM him and give him the heads up

These sold out in less then 2 weeks in March 2009. There was a additional 20 or so boxes released later in 09 to 2 other shops. Somehow most of those boxes were tracked down by botl brothers as well. There are no more anywhere and most boxes were bought by botl guys in the first week of the sale. Pretty interesting cigar and hx indeed. (Btw this box is why I have the sig below. When the Noella 09 res, regios res and then SW maddie hit the shelves I knew Pete had something special going with that wrapper.)
