Very sad yet inspiring story behind these cigars.
A good friend of Pete named Paul passed away in 2009. Paul wanted to create a maduro version of the Reserva SW with a maduro wrapper for his store Sabor Havana Cigars in Florida.
After Paul passed Pete finished the cigars and sold them through Sabor Havana with all profits going to support Paul’s family.
The story in Pete’s words can be found here: http://www.botl.org/community/forums/showthread.php?t=26074
These were produced in a limited run of 200 boxes.
Country of Origin: Nicaragua
Wrapper: Conn. Broadleaf
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua
Size: 7X47
Prelight
Nicely wrapped in a smooth, slightly oily wrapper. The cold draw gave up pepper and dried apricots. The foot provided notes of orange peel and pepper.
First Third
Lit easily…Great draw, with just enough resistance to provide tons of effortless smoke. Core tobacco and spice in the background with white pepper and orange peel up front..
Nice solid ash with beautiful figure, and a remarkably thin burn line.
Second Third
Steady dose of earthy tobacco and spice with a long, enjoyable finish of steak and pepper.
Background included notes of orange peel and burnt wheat toast. Reminded me of a cross between a Henry Clay and a Romeo Belicoso….Really enjoyable.
The burn was just perfect…No need to grab the lighter.
When the solid ash dropped, there was a perfect conical cherry, further indicating top notch construction.
Last Third
The same flavors continued, but the orange peel faded as the profile grew stronger. A bit of oak darted in and out. The extremely long finish had an unmistakable note of pepper encrusted steak…Really nice. The burn remained just stellar.
Closing
Another top shelf Tatuaje, made even more enjoyable with the story behind it. Medium to full bodied, with a great flavor profile and excellent craftsmanship.
Thanks again, Matt
