So podman28 posted a thread about smoking something good that you've been hoarding. This inspired me to dig through the humidor and I came up with this baby. Bob bombed me with it back in August and it's just been sitting ever since. I saved it for today because my Mondays are usually crappy and there's nothing like a nice cigar on a crappy day.
Pulling the cigar from the cello there is a faint aroma of what I like to call the DPG peanut butter (not sure if he's the one who rolls these for Pete, but I know he does a lot of stuff for him). It was fleeting and is replaced with a nice light earthy tobacco. The wrapper is a nice matte brown color with a few veins. Seams are showing in places a bit, but seem tight. The cigar seems well packed and is topped with a pig tail or fan tail cap (not really sure what the difference is, but I've heard both terms used).
The cap came off cleanly. The draw is a little loose and carries a earthy flavor with just enough spice for me to know it's there, but not enough to tell what it is.
Toasted the foot with my new Ronson Jet Lite. Thankful to have it as it was mighty windy here in Joplin today and I'd have had a hard time with my usual Bic. Thanks again Waffle .
I don't get much from the first few puffs. Then I began to pick up an earthy tobacco flavor. Faint at first, but it builds nicely. There is no sign of the pepper I had expected from the aroma earlier.
The cigar is billowing smoke and the burn is good, but it's looking like there may be a few touch ups needed as we go. Earth is the main flavor with some spice on the end. Chocolate is also present and the pepper is starting to build in the back of the throat. The ash is looking a little flaky, but seems to be holding tight.
My suspicions about the ash have been confirmed. It's kind of weird. While the inner core is holding tight, the leaf around it is flaky. Haven't had one burn like this before.
The cigar is needing multiple small touch ups along the way, but nothing major. The flavors are excellent . Earth, chocolate, pepper has reached a nice crescendo on the back of the tongue/throat, and there is a creamy coffee note through the nose.
Around the mid 2/3, the burn is finally starting to even out and the ash has been holding strong despite the loose/flaky look it has. Some roasted nut has also crept into the flavor profile.
I'm nubbin' it cause I'm lovin' it .
All in all a great way to turn my Monday around. Great stuff, thanks Pete . Thanks Tim for giving me the inspiration to spark this one up .
