The Angel's Anvil is a TAA exclusive cigar created by the geniuses at Crowned Heads. This particular stick can only be located at certain retailers and is a limited production.
The story goes that this cigars name derives its origins from John Huber and his separation from the cigar giant CAO. A wingless angel befriends a blacksmith to help him create new wings.
Jon Huber and Mike Conder (also of CAO) create Crowned Heads in 2011.
That picture makes the cigar look massive. And it is.
It is a 7 1/8 x 49 Churchill. The wrapper is Ecuadorian Havana. The binder and filler are Nicaraguan.
The wrapper is dark bronze. Beautifully even color. Picture a perfectly tanned Brazilian princess on the cover of Sports Illustrated. A typical amount of vein is present on the Ecuadorian wrapper and the triple cap is flawlessly executed.
No prelight draw using the "French" method.
The first third is nothing short of amazing.
Flavors are abundant. Oak, cinnamon, leather, cream and citrus zest. I am sure there are more than that, but my developing palette is having a hard time keeping up. It's all over the place. In a good way. It is constantly evolving. Each of the profiles mentioned above take a forefront in a singular succession. This is a flavor cornucopia.
The second third takes a 90 degree right turn. It shifts to flavors of floral sweetness, cream and charred meat. These are things I have not experienced at the same time. It's nearly overwhelming and I am hanging on for dear life. I try to grasp it all but it escapes me faster than I can reach to the memory for a similarity. Rose buds, honey, a perfectly cooked steak. It's all here. And it is outstanding.
The final third is a much more smooth transition. A relight is necessary even though I am paying significant attention. The floral component shifts to the forefront. White pepper spice moves back into the picture and char/cream take a back seat.
The nub is cool and fairly firm.
