Had the chance to get 2 bottles of this fine scotch last week so I jumped at the chance.
I would say that this is the finest that the distillery has to offer. I've had a glass of most they have bottled but the 21 is the one I keep going back for.
The Balvenie 21 is not really a double cask but it does mature in Tradtional Oak and finishes in Portwood. The Taditional Oak casks used for maturation leaves a nice subdued canvas for the few months that the Portwood does while this scotch finishes.
I drank this dram neat, water or ice would ruin it for me as the 21 is very mellow and the alcohol is almost not present at all. The nose is like molasses with a slight citrus note...pleaseant and not cloying taste. The finish is a little on the long side with a very distinct Port note.
It's a little on the pricey side - Utah state liquor board has it listed for $199.00 in all of it's stores but you might be able to find it lower (around $150ish).
Well worth the purchase though.
