Tough to imagine having watched it live a couple of days ago and the link being dated 5/23/21. Maybe the production links in the article are dated but I don't recall specific numbers in the live show. They even discuss the sanctions being re-imposed last year. Big topic was the tremendous growth in sales to China.
I have always been impressed with your knowledge of CC's but it seems you don't believe that cigars have a small fermentation period after rolling due to being dampened and rolled. I've been rolling for years and I find the "sick" period to be a few weeks. You can smoke them within a day or two or you should let them rest for at least 3 weeks. I've never heard a home roller disagree with the concept of a "sick period". It's not an issue for commercial cigars since they never make it to market within the first few weeks.After rolling, cigars enter a sick period where they sweat out ammonia....

I agree with you, there is certainly a sick period with cigars.
it was the reference to ammonia that was the basis of the statement.
CCs used to be horrible until the initial freshness of under cured tobacco went away, I have had many boxes like this.
Since 2003 or so ,CCs have been rolled with more aged tobacco.
Not really old, but enough to get past the ammonia stage.
The only recent CCs I have encountered with any ammonia in them have been fresh custom or farm rolls.
