In no way am I ass kissing here at all, but damn I love this site. I belong to a few other cigars sites as well and find myself spending more and more time here, and less at the other sites. Here's a couple things I've noticed on BOTL:
1) Everyone is friendly! Some sites are very cliquish, some have their bullies and most have a lot of nice guys. I've not run across one butt head here yet, I'm sure over the years there's been a few, but this is just a big bunch of nice guys.
2) BOTL is an adult site. We all smoke cigars and are all adults, and I like that the site is run the same. By that I mean, if someone types a swear word, it doesn't get edited, if someone posts a raunchy pic, it doesn't get edited. We're men (for the most part) and it's nice to come to a site where we can act as men and not have to worry about being so damn PC that we're all on pins and needles.
3) I've yet to see a Posse take over. What I mean is, even when someone makes a post that may be questionable, I've yet to see a bunch of FOG's gang up and rip the guy as new ass. This isn't the norm, on most other cigar sites, you step outta line, and they will hang you to dry. Sometimes even if unwarranted.
4) "BOTL" It's not just a name. I've read and experienced first hand some very generous members here. Now granted, this is commonplace for the most part with people who share our passion, but really, it's almost overly common here. Very cool on you guys!
5) Site Owner/Admin. I've had several PM conversations with David, Eric and some of the FOG's here, and all of them have been so helpful, understanding and willing to help, yet I've never yet seen them play the heavy (I guess see #1 & #2 above to understand why that's not even necessary.)
6) Grammar. I try to do my best to use proper English, punctuation and grammar in all my posts, not that I'm always perfect, although FireFox helps! I've noticed that across the board, our grammar is pretty dang good here, and the nice thing is, if someone does have a typo, incorrect punctuation or use of a word, nobody is there to correct it. I'm all for keeping the site clean in this regard, but it gets pretty old when some old fart feels the need to reply to a post only to correct your grammar; is that really all they have to worry about during the day?
I know some of you from other sites, and I'm sure those that know me well will understand where I'm coming from with this post. Don't get me wrong, the other sites are great as well, some better than others, but as a whole, BOTL is just a well balanced, friendly, fun place to hang out and has a lot of FOG's that we can learn a lot from.
