  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I've recently been looking into lighters. My immediate go to is Xikar and I want to see what every ones thoughts are on the Escalade lighter. If anyone here owns one, and any likes or dislikes. Let me know what you think!

I have a Xikar Eris, with the Mother of Pearl inlay, not sure if they even make that one any more, but it's been great no problems. One of the main selling points of Xikar is the lifetime warranty. I've ordered some for friends and one had a problem. We sent it back, no grief from the company, they sent back a new lighter with a case and this one hasn't missed a beat. I've looked around and there are some cool looking lighters from different companies, but IMO you can't beat the lifetime warranty and I think they have some pretty nice looking designs.

Now, having said all of that, I also have a Ronson Jet light that I bought at Wal-Mart, for just a few bucks. I've had it for several years, travel with it and it's going just as strong as the Xikar. The ronson is my travel lighter, I figure if I loose it no biggie. Check out the Ronson line and get one at least to have as you go to lighter. Save your money then get something fancy smancy for home when you sit in your recliner and pretend your Dr. Evil. (what, I'm the only one that does that??) Oh, well I digress, Get a Ronson!

Thanks for the input, Xikar was my immediate go to for the same reason the lifetime warranty and I have only heard great feedback about the company in general. Good call on getting the "beater" lighter that didn't even cross my mind, save the wear and abuse for the beater.

I agree 100%.
Xikar has let me down over the years. The warranty is great but it's a PITA to keep sending stuff back.
I have a ST DuPont as my nice lighter. Hardly ever use it
I have a dozen Ronsons spread around. I have them Outside, garage, golf bag, travel bag, car, ect. This is my goto lighter and they work great as long as you drain the fuel that comes in it and replace it with a fuel that doesnt smell bad.

im with web and mvp, just buy a ronson or two or three... for less that what you would pay for the cheapest xikar and call it a day. Over the last few years I have had various lighters from xikar, colibri, blazer, and other cheapo torches and yet I keep using the same freaking ronson I got for free from a friend a few years back.

I just recently went through 3 xikar torches before throwing in the towel. The first two were clogged from the factory, both replaced under warranty but not without the expense of shipping twice.... third one worked only to discover it holds enough fuel to light a whopping 2 cigars before needing a refill... into the drawer it went (executive II model in case you are wondering) Not saying they dont have good lighters in their line up as I have read several rave reviews of many of they products but unless you LOVE the look of a lighter put the cash saved with a ronson towards more sticks.

Thank you all for the input I might have to re-evaluate, I have a cheep single just about 10 years old that's failing on me, maybe ill just pick up another cheep one for now. I would rater spend the cash on more cigars.

Honestly I think that is a good plan. Who cares what you use to light it, the cigar is what matters.

Dont get me wrong I would LOVE a st dupont maxijet but why bother when a $3 ronson does the same thing the $180 dollar st does...

Personally I would rather light $177 bucks worth of cigars with a $3 lighter than the latter.

Personally I like the Escalade, it has a large capacity fuel tank, double flame and single action ignition(only one step to light aka "no openin' stuff first"). Mostly I smoke inside and use a soft flame, but the Escalaade is my go to outdoor lighter.
