  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Got a lighter as a gift from Dad a while ago. Ran out of gas and only just tried refilling it.
I can see that the lighter is full, but when I press the clicker, I get a brief spurt of gas, then nothing.
Me's thinking there might be a blockage or something?? Anyone can help?

Did you purge the lighter of the left-over air inside before refilling it?

Awesome torch BTW :)
Yup. used a screwdriver to empty it before filling as per Colibri instructions on their website.
It'd be nicer if I could get it working :)

Try the flame height adjustment screw, it might be to high or it could be set to low. You could also try using a can of compressed air, to ensure you have no debris clogging up the flame jet(s).

I had this problem once. Purged it of fuel, then refilled and laid it upside down, aka how you fill it; Kept it that way for a week in a bag with some damp-rid and it fixed the problem.

Also you need to use the recommended fuel. Fuel purity is key with venturi lighters. Hope this helps.

Lighter problems are frustrating to say the least. Usually it's because of air trapped in the chamber...bad butane...blown seal or clogged jets as Larry said.

Purging is the place to start and ensuring that ALL of the fuel is purged is important. Some don't turn the adjustment all the way down to the negative and just purge away. Dial the adjustment all the way then purge. After you think it's all purged try it a few more times until you don't hear anymore hissing. Refill with quality butane like 5X Vector or Lava. As you refill don't refill for more than 5-8 seconds esp. if you have a small chamber lighter. After that wait a few seconds and then charge again for about 4 seconds again. Once you've refilled then wait a few minutes and then turn the adjustment 1/4 turn and see if it lights. After trying a few times if it doesn't light turn another 1/4 turn and try again. I've had some really stubborn lighters that I had to turn up to 3/4 and finally it lit. As Larry said before you might want to use compressed air on the jets before trying to light it the first time. Impurities from inferior butane is a common cause for lighter failure as well. This may be silly to say but also check for a spark as sometimes the rod can be bent sometimes.

Thanks to all.
I filled and purged the contects a few times and got it working.
Didn't have compressed air, but it worked out in the end. Here's a video of the result:
