  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hey all!

It's been a while since I've posted. WOW! What great smokes I've had lately:
Bolivar Regional from France...oh my god! Ramon Allones Regional from France.....oh my GAWD!!!! Juan Lopez Regional from France....WOW! FANTASTIC!!!!!

I've also had the pleasure of smoking the Cohiba Siglo II Tubos and the RyJ Churchill Tubos. Guys...why are the tubos so freakin' great? At least in my opinion concerning "taste"...the tubos are much more superior. I've had the RyJ in its regular box...not bad. BUT NOW I'm strictly only smoking tubos RyJ, same with the Siglo II, and I haven't tried the Siglo VI in tubos format yet, but would venture to say that it rocks as well.

Can any more experienced members share what they feel in regards to tubos? Why aren't all Habana's offered in tubos? What's really going on in regards to the tubos format anyways?

Thanks y'all

Love 'em too. Sig IIIs, IVs, and Vs are coming out in tubos this year, along with Mag 46 tubos (really excited!), Monte Edmundo and Petit Edmundo tubos, and PSP2 tubos. Kinda looks like there will be a better tubo selection in the upcoming years. I also really like Punch Royal Coronation tubos, and just got a box of Punch Coronation tubos (not as Royal, but still Coronations).

I'm also a fan of tubos ;) but then again I'm a fan of most cigars :) Has anyone heard that if you put tubos down to get some age, the tube actually slows/prevents the aging? So, you have to remove the cigars from the tubes in order to let them rest...I thought that I read that somewhere??

Tubos definately age better.

They can hold the flavor and slow down the aging process a bit.
:scratchhe

I agree in that they slow down the aging process but not sure about "tubos definately age better". I've heard from others before, just the opposite.

As for storing them, I just take off the end caps and leave them in the tubes (and the original box).

I would like to comment on a couple things. I do not have the experience enough to comment on aging in tubes vs no tubes for the same vitola. But seems to me they put sticks in the tubos for less airflow and that is for a reason. For seriously longterm storage, it should make the stick better.

I think all marcas and vitolas are not in tubes due to cost. Most new tubos coming out seem to be of the larger sticks and already more expensive cigars. It would make no sense to make a tubo for a small corona junior size that cost $4.00, just to raise the price about a buck or basically to raise the cost 20%.

Seems the tubes coming out now are very colorful and pretty looking vs the older style aluminum one's. If they are selling more, they will make more available for people to buy (and more profit). Again noticing most are the more expensive sticks in the Cohiba line and other sticks that are more expensive.

Habanos SA is a clever marketing organization and the growth of tubos is no accident. They are aesthetically pleasing and great effort goes into the design these days. Further, they do protect the cigar for gifting, etc. Far and away the best attribute of Tubes is the aging potential. They are a perfect vehicle for limiting the airflow to the cigar and it's effects on the long term aging potential. All things being equal, tubes will be superior in this process.

OK, to continue this conversation. What about medium range aging say year or two? yes or not to the sealed tubo?
My Partagas de Luxe tubos seem rather moist when I received them. They also had a slightly tight draw. So while I let them rest for several months should the tops be tight like how they came or tops off?

Tubo's are similar to cello, but that's where the similarity ends. Tubo's do help age cigars in a heterogenous sense, each one will be different since they age seperately and not borrowing from it's close proximity to another cigar. Tubo's are not permeable like cello, but are not hermetically sealed either so it will take in humidity and air, but at a significally reduced rate.

As with cello, leave the packaging like you got it. You wouldn't take all your cigars out of it's box when you get it, so why do it with tubo's?

As far as being "wet" as with Kelly's case, the cigars will take longer to release and become stable since they are in tubes. If that's the case, dry box before smoking and all will be ok. I like to find tube's with a couple of years on them before buying/smoking just because of that reason.

....atleast that's what I've been told:razz:
