What are the different types of ceder and which ones work better. I remember reading somewhere that some are better inside your humi than others.

The only wood named cedar that you ever want to put in your humi is Spanish Cedar although it's neither Spanish nor truly Cedar. That's just what it's called. I believe most of it is harvested in Honduras now.
Never put Aromatic, Western Red or any other type of cedar in a humidor or you risk the cigars absorbing the aroma. 'Course, moths would never bother your cigars but I don't think you'd want to smoke them

Regular cedar is too aromic for cigar storage, unless you like smoking cedar. Spanish cedar is naturally mold resistant and holds water moister very well. I think it is a relative of mohagany too.

Spanish Cedar. That's what I'll be using when I start building my own humi.

And I have heard of some humi's having mohagony inside. Can't remember where.

The other reason yoou use Spanish Cedar, besides the aromatic properties, is it's ability to maintain moisture. It is a stable wood when introduced to moisture. Mahagony has that same property. It is used in boat making. The PT boats in WWII would be a great example.

I used marine grade mahaony for my walk in. Since Spanish cedar plywood (particle board w/vaneers actually) was going for $300 a sheet (I needed 7) I felt marine grade mahagony @ $70 was a great bargain.

Yea you can use Mahogany inside the humi too. I've seen Bob do this with some humidors he has built.

I have heard mahaogany will work too, but spanish cedar is easier to come by in the way of boxes, humidors and the like. Glad to hear it worked out for ya Prometheus.

Honduran Mahogany.
Sage at Petroglyph prefers it over Spanish Cedar.
