Drew Estate NotRex
First of all I would like to thank Drew Estate Ambassador Aaron Glogas for hooking me up with this baby. He took it upon himself to share this delicious stick even though he hadn't tried it yet for himself. That is a great gesture and it is much appreciated. This is also my first review so you may have to take it with a grain of salt.
Construction:
I found the construction to be high quality with minimal veins and a firm body.
First Third:
The smoke started well. I was definitely surprised how the Viva was different from the normal Undercrowns but still held true to the brand. I didn't notice nearly the amount of spice at start up that I normally would have noticed with a standard UC. I actually thought it was very pleasant. I noticed hints of spice and a little pepper and leather along with the slightest taste of coffee and cocoa. The smoke was creamy as usual with UC's and literally bellowed out of my mouth like a smoke stack.
Second Third:
The spice has definitely kicked in and I am enjoying it a lot. The cocoa and coffee notes have faded but the leather is still there. This thing is a smoke machine for it's size.
Final Third:
The spice has mellowed out but is still the dominant flavor. The wrapper is burning a little uneven but it isn't a problem at all. I rather enjoyed how well the cigar seemed to ease me into the flavors. I am afraid to say goodbye to this one as I know with any good stick when it starts to lose steam.
Summary:
As always I am never disappointed with the UC. I was pleasantly surprised with the subtle differences though. I gotta say this will be a box purchase for sure with me. I am a sucker for small smokes. On a 1-10 scale I would give it a 8.5, it's mighty damn fine smoke.
