  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

not sure why I had not thought of this sooner. but how would some of you texans feel about me using ups ground as your shipping method.

pros:

- I have daily pick up
- ups ground packages from houston to austin, dallas, san antonio are delivered the next day
- each parcel is automatically covered for $100 insurance without having to pay extra
- tracking number allows you to see exactly where it's at. much more reliable than the dc# system
- cheaper, $3.62 under one pound vs. $3.85 by usps.

cons:

- you have to sign for them. so if you aren't home or not at a place of business you have to wait for it to be redelivered. well I can just authorize them to leave them on the doorstep.

anyone have a preference for me to send their smokes this way? this would be ideal for someone that is getting their delivered at an office, or where someone is home most of the day to sign for them.

if you want ups be sure it is being sent to a place where someone will be there to sign for it. I have lived in some apt complexes there they leave all packages at the management office. others where they knock on your door.

if they are being sent to an office, that would be ideal because someone will always be there to sign for them.

My UPS guy comes into the foyer of the duplex and leaves them on the table by mine and Nicole's door. Mailman does the same thing. sometimes it's nce to live in a small town.

question though, how does this compare to the first class mail option you had talked about?

another question, which dogsled courier are we using to get Legends' cigars to him?

Yeah, how's this affect me? I don't really have a pref. I'm normally home during the day but once it warms up (in May) I'll be out more. If UPS is competitive on price up here, it's fine by my as long as you have it dropped without a signature requirement. Our UPS guy just leaves our packages inside our screen door at the back.

scott -- first class would work for local guys. I don't want to risk them taking longer than necessary if they were leaving town. I sent a package to andrew (txcop) yesterday for $1.85 or something via first class. he's here in houston, I'm pretty sure he is getting them today. oh yeah, I bet you have a pretty cool ups guy, so you'd be a good candidate for that as well.

danny -- good to know they are left in the office when you are not around.

bj -- you are screwed, my artic friend. I can't do ground service to ak. and even if I were able to it would take a full 5 days. usps gets it there faster.

Shit, you Houston guys should just arrange to meet George in some dark alley. At least that way, you're not directly involved in the conspiracy. You can just say it was a friend giving you some unbanded Dominicans.

How about we set up a monthly mini-herf for those who can attend? Then we can just pick up our sticks at the same time and we can all save on shipping.

Jorge would likely puss out.:smt044

kidding. although austin mini herfs would be very workable as I go through my "lame duck" quarter about to start next week, and this summer, I'll be here studying for the bar.

I guess if we decide to do an austin one, we could just notify Jorge/George ahead of time. Me, you, danny, and grant could do that. it would just be few buck, but I guess it would add up over time.

p.s.-Jorge, if this sounds like a hassle, which admittedly, it may, you can feel free to veto such an idea.

p.s.s.--Jorge, I want to know RIGHT NOW, whether it's "George" or "Jorge". i've seen it both ways, and have heard some call you Jorge, pronouncing it "Hor-hey".

I can do whatever dudes, and I'll be making frequent trips to austin in the coming months for showers, weddings, and all that bullshit. so a mini-herf would kick about 6 or 9 kinds of ass.

Even if you can't make it in to town for a particular month, you can just send one of the Austin guys all of the sticks... and we can distribute them.

Sounds good to me. Speaking of herfs, Habana House here in Austin is putting on a herf at SFA Hotel(downtown on Congress). It's te one with the balacony that you can sit out on. It's going down at 8pm this Friday if anyone else wants to go. You can give me a call if you need to (512)736-3069. Candon and I will be there.
