  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

For those f you who have repaired holes in stems using black super glue - have you tried using (or know of a reason not to use) a hot glue gun with black glue sticks to patch a hole from a bite mark or fill in teeth chatter?

Thanks

I can't see that working. But I don't know all the types of glue sticks.

CA once cured can be filed, sanded, buffed and waxed so it blends in with the acrylic or vulcanite. Making the repair virtually invisible.

320 acrylic stem. This one has couple tiny airbubbles but would have been near perfect without them.

Thanks, Dave. My thinking was going in the same direction but, sd I was wandering through Amazon for stuff that I didn't know I absolutely needed, I came across black glue sticks. A glue gun would allow for pretty precise placement of glue and I thought that the glue's flexibility would be a bonus, but wondered about being able to apply a finish over top of it.

I'll stick with the CA

On a side note ... what type of glue (brand, etc..) do you guys prefer ... might have to add this to the bag of tricks soon.

And Stick Fast black flexible

The black of course I use on vulcanite stems. The satellite city I use on acrylic. I have all the satellite city glues cuz of my pen making. You can color clear CA glue with charcoal. The charcoal capsules from the drug store. If you want to get fancy I believe CP adhesives has a coloring kit that you can color with different colors. But I have read you can color any thick CA glue with Pearl Ex powder. I do recommend getting a spray can of the accelerator tho.

Thanks for the info Sir! Also (when you get a chance) you need to make more of those awesome tampers, perhaps a black one with red accents .... just a thought ;)
