Gettin on a tech kick lately. Still working on my NAS/External Drive Backup and File Storage issue. Then, last night while I was at my Mom's, I watched her trying to access the 'net with here poor dialup service (24 kps). She has no option for DSL or Cable and Satellite service is way too expensive for her usage. Then I though.. hey, why not a Verizon Wireless Broadband card? I know that they are intended for notebooks, but would they work as a good alternative to her dialup?

Thoughts?

But technically it would work on the desktop if you installed a pcmcia card. A little expensive though.

yea, they're typically fairly expensive, plus the associated hardware costs to get it running on a PC. You'd need the pcmcia to pci adapter, which you can probably find for $25-50 bucks, than the cost of the card itself, etc.

in my experience, they faster than dial-up, but slower than most DSL's (with full cell signal)

60 bucks is pricey but not that far off from cable ($40). Seems like dial up or pay up.
