  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I'm back!!! Since I have internet again and it seems to be working...at least right no...figured I'd get a review posted. Haven't had much time to stop and have a cigar since the tornado a few weeks ago, but I'm trying to get back in the swing of things as much as I can. Last night there was some yard work that needed to be done at the house I'm staying at so I figured why not have a cigar also...

Didn't want anything too big so I opted for the Viaje Exclusivo Short.

Nice looking cigar, though a it seemed a bit smaller than the quoted 4 1/4 x 42. Medium brown wrapper with a slight oily sheen. Few small seams present, but nothing major. Aroma off the wrapper was rich, slightly salty tobacco. Really gets my mouth watering and reminds me of a nice steak.

Pig tail cap clipped easily and cleanly to reveal an easy draw. A rich tobacco flavor was prominent with a bit of pepper on the finish. Lit easily with a Ronson JetLite.

Initial blast of pepper and an odd fruity flavor at the outset. Not bad odd, just different and not something that I was expecting. Draw is good and smoke output is fantastic.

While the burn started off good, it soon became a bit lopsided and seemed to want to stay that way for most of the cigar which prompted a few touch ups.

After the first third the pepper mellowed and was accompanied by a subdued leathery taste. The fruitiness at the start continued to hang around, though only intermittently and in the background. I think it could best be described as cherries :dunno:.

In the last third the fruit flavor became more noticeable, the pepper came back a bit and was joined by a slight roasted coffee through the nose.

I wanted to keep going, but the cigar started to heat up too much. Overall a cigar I enjoyed...until I started looking up details and noticed the price. $6.50 for a PC (and a seemingly small one at that)!? Wow. Not a cigar that's going to find a spot in my humidor at that price. I could get a Padron 2000 Maduro for cheaper than that and enjoy it twice as long.

Dan

P.S. Stay tuned, got some pretty cool things coming up that I started before the tornado and should finish before too long .

Welcome back Dan.

I had the same thoughts...Decent but there's no way I'm paying that price point for such a small cigar that was ok. If he thought he was putting out something near the Dirty Rat, he was waaaay off base.

Nice review, and ditto on the outcome. Great small sticks are awesome, but they have to be priced reasonably. $6.50+ tax? Can't you get Cohiba Sig Is for that?

Good to see you back and nice review. Expensive stick for the size but the flavors make it worth having some on hand.

That I can see. They are certianly great cigars. I can list several that i like more in that size, but variety being the spice of life ... I still wish I had more than 2 of these now, lol.

BTW--how do these compare to the Chaquito or whatever the heck that other small Exclusivo is called?

Thanks for the review. Concur on pricing issue, the one place I saw them in Hawaii wanted $8.50 a stick!
