I was able to get my hands on some of the Viaje Holiday Blend Petit Robos a couple of days ago. I smoked on ROTT, but didn't really concentrate on anything as far as a review goes. So I decided to smoke another one today for a review.
This years release is the same blend of cigar as was last year's, except it is available as the Petit Robo or as a Belicoso. The wrapper is a nice dark, reddish, brown and is slightly rough, with some noticeable veins. The construction is very good, topped off with a nice triple cap...very firm feel. A clip of the cap and the prelight draw has a clean tobacco taste, with a little sweetness.
The first third of the cigar offers up a similar profile to the original Holiday Blend. It is earthy, with a sweet flavor like brown sugar, and has a bit of pepper on the tongue. The burn is fairly decent, but the cigar still appears to be somewhat wet. Again, it is only a couple of days off of the truck.
Entering the second third, the HBPR changes to a more leafy flavor. There is still some of the same sweetness present from the first third, but a little more subtle. The pepper has picked up a little, but it isn't overwhelmingly strong.
The final third of the cigar changed a little more. The main flavor changed over to a woody (cedar) flavor. The sweetness was there, as well as the pepper, but it was a little muddled.
Overall, it isn't exactly the same as the original cigar was...at this time. I think it has all of the same flavor, but it isn't fully developed just yet. A little time for these to rest is in order.
Smoke time for the PR was around 90 mins.
