This month viaje came out with a cigar that has been hugely anticipated. The Skull and bones daisy cutter! The deal is Viaje wanted to come out with a cigar to satisfy their full bodied customers. It sports a Nicaraguan sun grown criollo wrapper and a Nicaraguan binder and filler. They come 25 to a box and sell for $9.00 a stick. Only 150 were produced. So far the daisy cutter is the only vitola in the line. I was lucky enough to get some from a BOTL so here goes...
pre light
The cigar is beautifully constructed. It has a nice dark brown oily wrapper. No veins or anything, just perfect! It's actually very similiar looking to the tatuaje t110. Just a bit shorter. Pre light aroma brought on flavors aged wood and hay. There wasn't much on the pre light draw. Just a faint hay taste with a touch of pepper.
1/3
Right off the bat i am hit with a strong wood flavor and a lot of spice and black pepper! Suprisingly not so much through the nose ( i was expecting it to be a real nose burner ) I was able to retro hale pretty easily. The Pepper note lingers on the finish for a long time! It kind of trickles down your throat as you swallow. The draw is perfect, just a little bit of resistance and the cigar already is producing massive amounts of smoke. A real pleasure to smoke so far!
2/3
The second third i am still getting a heavy wood flavor with the black pepper finish but a creamy sweetness follows on the finish now as well. The smoke is velvety and it coats my mouth and leaves it very moist after every draw. Very pleasing! The ash holds strong and the burn is razor sharp the whole way! At this point i am starting to feel the effects of the power this cigar has. It's unbelievably smooth though so the nicotine factor really creeps up on you out of nowhere.
3/3
The final third the cigar is starting to heat up. although i am not bothered by and it's understandable considering it's size. It has no effects on the flavor whatsoever. The woody flavor is still the star of the show but the creamy sweetness has intensified and i got amazing roasted coffee bean/espresso flavors on the finish. The pepper had died down considerably at this point.
Final thoughts:
I really loved this cigar. It wasn't the most complex smoke but the flavors that it produced were outstanding! I was amazed at how strong this cigar was and it's ability to stay so smooth at the same time. The only bummer here is there is only 150 boxes to go around. I will try to scrounge up as many as i can i know that much!! If you guys get a chance to grab one of these don't hesitate!
