Today was such a crap day at work that all I wanted to do was take some time and relax. I can think of nothing better to help me do that than to enjoy some time with my favorite dried plant . So I came home, put the baby down for his nap, ate some lunch, and headed out to the deck. I had had this cigar in the back of my mind since earlier today as what I wanted to smoke, I was bombed with it by Clint when I returned from Vegas back in June. It's been resting at 65% and roughly 70 degrees since then. It was hot and humid, even in the shade of my porch swing, but that's how I like it. The "Daisy Cutter" is a Nicaraguan puro with a Sun Grown Criollo wrapper. It measures 4 x 54.
I'm particularly fond of the band on this cigar. It's simple yet very bad a$$.
The wrapper is a dark slightly reddish brown color and has a velvety texture to it. There are a few small veins and the seams are visible, but tight. There is a chocolaty tobacco aroma emanating from the cigar and it is firmly packed. The cap comes off cleanly and the draw is just right.
Pre-light flavors are that of medium tobacco, a spice I cannot place, and some woodiness. The cigar takes flame easily and produces thick clouds of smoke right off the bat.
Immediately the strength of this cigar punches me in the stomach and I began to wonder if I'd bitten off more than I could chew . Perhaps I should have eaten a bigger/heartier lunch. I'm getting a predominately leather flavor accentuated with a light earth and oak. There is a mild unsweetened chocolate on the retro hale.
The burn isn't razor sharp, but doesn't need any correction either. The ash is an off white color and is holding strong and tight.
The flavors are continuing to stay consistent, I'm really digging this and my day is quickly improving.
A little past the half way point a slight sweetness started to creep into the leather, earth, oak profile. It was quite nice. Unfortunately I had to wrap it up just shortly after getting past the band, the baby woke up so I had to go inside :crying:. But this cigar did what I wanted it to, I'm in such a better mood now. Smoking time on this was around an hour, but there was a good 15 minutes left when I let it burn out. Too bad these are LE, I would smoke more of them :argh:.
