  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Today I decided to throw out all my rules and smoke a summer fest robusto without letting it rest at all. The reason is because I have heard a lot of people say they are waiting to hear some reviews on these before they spring for box. Well fortunately ( or unfortunately ) my sickness won't let me do that :) If it comes in a nice cedar box and is in limited quantities I must BUY! Anyways here we go…

For those who don't know Viaje has decided to do a two part release annually. They released the holiday winter blend during Christmas and this is the other half to the idea. The summer fest. The true summer fest cigar is an 8 inch shaggy foot torpedo made in limited quantities ( 200 boxes of 30 ). The story goes that the summer fest robusto was made completely by accident but Andre (owner of Viaje) decided to release them anyways.Coincidentally, the first run of cigar bands and seals were printed with the wrong color as well so they decided to put the two errors together and release the cigar. Only 50 boxes of these hit the market making them an ultra limited release. Frankly I am glad these were made because the shaggy foot torpedo doesn't really interest me vitola wise. The summer fest robusto is roughly 5 1/2 x 50 (just guessing by looks) The only thing I know about the blend is that it is different from the winter blend and has a cafe rosado wrapper.

Pre light

It's a nice looking robusto. The wrapper is a light chocolate color. It has a few minimal veins here and there. Not oily at all. It has kind of a rough feel to it. It’s certainly not the prettiest wrapper but nice anyhow. It had a Nice triple cap and is a fairly dense smoke. No soft spots anywhere and firm to the touch.

Pre light aroma is very strong! It gives off a very strong peppery fruity smell mixed with just a very sweet tobacco aroma. I think this is going to be a spicy smoke because just the pre light smell of the foot makes my nose tingle. On the Pre light draw I got flavors of very sweet tobacco and a mild cedar taste.

1/3

Lots of spice in the opening. Very strong through the nose! After about 5 or so puffs the spice dies down considerably. Initial flavors are wood, with a nice cream on the finish. The sweet smell from the pre light is very noticeable in the aroma right now. I also am getting a mild pepper flavor on the finish.

2/3

At the second third I am still getting a strong woody flavor but the cream has left. The finish is now made up of a mild sweetness. More of a fruity sweetness opposed to a creaminess. The finish is average. Not long but not short by any means. The cigar has also mellowed out quite a bit in general. The pepper is all but gone and the spice has yet to return in full. The draw is absolutely perfect and the cigar is producing massive amounts of thick smoke. The burn is absolutely perfect. It’s a real pleasure to smoke.

3/3

The wood flavor is still the star of the show but the creaminess on the finish has returned and with it, it brought a nice dark coffee flavor. I also am getting a vegetable type flavor on the finish. It’s a mushroom type of flavor that I can’t quite put my finger on but it is indeed a great flavor. The Spice has come back and is strong through the nose once again.

final thoughts...

Overall I loved this smoke! It has some similarities to the winter blend but I thought this was a better smoke. It isn’t that complex but it’s got nice easy flavors that were very enjoyable. You can tell this cigar is made up of very high quality tobacco. The aroma it gives off is just amazing. I have literally smoked this cigar right off the delivery truck yet it performed like a dream. I think these are going to be such an amazing smoke after a year or so in the humidor. Trouble is they are smoking so well right now I don’t know if I will have any left a year from now! Viaje has done it again with this cigar. If you can find some get them, you won’t be disappointed!

final score: 92

Great review!

Did you get any TNT's or "brushies"?

Can't wait to get mine.
I got some tnt's and i will be smoking one tomorrow or the next day for a review. I didn't get any brush foots. The vitola doesn't interest me at all.
