  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Wrapper: Candela

Binder: Nicaragua

Filler:Nicaragua

Price: $8.56

Vitola: 5×50 Robusto

Drink: Coffee (Kenya from Starbucks)

Appearance & Construction: Construction is perfect. Flawless draw, the cigar “feels” good, solid like it’s been perfectly filled (not too fragile). One of the most underrated qualities in a cigar for me, is it’s ability to burn cool (at least through most of it). This one nails it. On top of that, the burn is even and slow. Even though you are smoking a robusto, it will take you a good while to get through this stick. Ash is fairly pure (light grey), and it’s solid, meaning it will stay attached for a good amount of time.

Flavor & Notes: I’m completely at a loss on this cigar. It’s not that it’s incredibly complex, but it’s different from anything I’ve ever tasted in a cigar. Surprisingly, pepper will be the first flavor you pick up, but there is something else looming under the surface. The best way I can describe it is a sweet grassy flavor with a taste of pistachio. Not to far into the smoke, the pepper mellows out and the unique flavors of this beautiful candela emerge into something far smoother. Pepper has taken a back seat, but it’s still apparent. The sweet green grassy flavor has evolved and is now a little different. Imagine walking into a fresh smoothie shop (Jamba Juice?). The immediate scent is that freshness of fruit and wheat grass. That’s exactly how this cigar tastes in the final third, and it is absolutely amazing.

Body: Starts out as medium with a kick. 1/3 of the way in it smooths out and stays consistent for the rest of the smoke. Not going to knock your socks off, but lots of flavor.

Overall Smoking Experience: I was skeptical of this cigar. I’ve only had one or two other candelas, and they were terrible experiences. I ended up absolutely loving this cigar. It’s way different from anything I’ve smoked. I’m not a person to buy a whole box of something, but if these were readily available I’d buy at least 2. This is something incredibly unique and special. If you can find one, you will be thrilled with this cigar.

Pre-Light: Wrapper is very pale green. Smooth wrapper, but I wouldn’t say it’s “pretty”. Smells like it looks. Similar to fresh cut grass, but sweeter. Taste on the pre-light is a very refreshing flavor. Not necessarily the flavor of fresh fruit and veggies, but that same fresh taste and feeling.

Rating: 9.0

Buy Again: IF I could find some I’d buy at least a bundle.

Chooch Rating: If the term “micro-batching” makes you breath heavy, then I’m giving this a 5/5. Otherwise it’ll be a 2/5.
