Video editing?

Do any of the tech buff here here know of a good free video editor for Windows? I'd use the one bundled with Windows but it doesn't preserve the aspect ratio and changes the decoding. I want something simple that will preserve the aspect ratio and let me stitch some clips together.

Have you updated to the most recent version? XP or Vista?

I've done a pretty reasonable amount of editing with both versions and have never had an issue keeping my footage shot in 16:9 staying in 16:9.
