What's new
  • I've said this before - but this is just a reminder. I'll be breaking BOTL over time in order to get it into a far better place. Just be patient if you can't reach us! We'll be back

We are so out of here

The wife just got an e-mail from the director of the Preventive Med program at Madigan. After 2.5 years in frozen hell, we're heading to Tacoma next year. What a load off of our minds. If she didn't get in, she was going on the "ready to deploy" list and was certain to be in Iraq some time soon.

To the state of Alaska, it's been an experience I'll never forget. Both of our girls were born here and we'll remember you forever. BUT WE'RE READY TO GET THE HELL OUT.

I highly encourage all of you to visit Alaska sometime. BUT DO NOT MOVE HERE. It's like living in Oklahoma except when you drive 400 miles, you're still in Oklahoma.

Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

Lived in Alaska for almost three years, must say I agree with you.

Why don't you kiss my ass.

David, did I know that already? Cuz it's escaping me if I did.
I probably did not tell you before or maybe I did and your brain is just frozen. Spent almost 3 years working on a military radar installation (worked for a civilian contractor) on a mountaintop by Lake Illiamna Alaska. We would fly into Anchorage each weekend in a Cessna 207 on floats for food and sanity break (ie get drunk). Loved it for the first year and then it just got old.

I am not picking on you McBeer, but last time I checked Alaska is a part of this continent.

Viper, check out the fine print on nearly every ad. While Alaska is part of the continent, when dealing with pricing, availibility and shipping, they almost always exclude AK and HI from the "continental United States."

It will be nice to order something and have "free shipping" actually apply.

That is true, and it is one of those little things that just irritates me when I see it. Call it lower 48 if you must but it is the same continent. LOL

Bugged me when I lived there even more.

You're telling me. Remember what it cost to ship the Legendor? We were going to buy a tempur-pedic mattress. The mattress is $1500. The shipping was going to be $450. They advertise "free shipping" just not to Alaska and Hawaii. We'll wait.

John, as I learn more about our departure, I might be able to give you an idea of whether I'm gonna be able to swing through Vegas or not.
