What are some good newbie brands?

I recently just got started smoking pipes, and was wondering what are some good newbie tobaccos. Price isn't an object so if its expensive but good then let me know.

it all depends on what you want to try, they are all for the most part same price. What flavor are you looking for?

i usually recommend heavier latakia blends to cigar smokers who want to try pipe smoking. but i also think it's nice to get a variety if your budget allows it (grab a virginia, a virginia/perique, an english, a balkan, even some lakeland blends). there are lots of quality blends from, McClellands, hearth and home, GL pease, esoterica, samuel gawith... to many to mention really.

If u have a local shop check out their bulk blends. If it smells good buy an ounce amd try it. I wpuldnt buy too much bulk till you have tried a few. My tastes changed so fast with pipe baccy. I am in love with virginia/burley blends myself. Started with the more aromatics and hated the smell of burely blends. Now i love the burley blends.

i myself would stay away from aromatics, the infused of the pipe world, until you get your feet. while it is easier to get a good flavor going in pipe tobacco than in a cigar, aromatics smoke wetter, and can be difficult to work with from the start.

i like the idea of trying one of each major style. i would start with a tin of dunhill nightcap. latakia-rich english that burns cool and even, IMO great analogue to heavy complex nicaraguan puros. although mcclelland's frogmorton is great as well. escudo is a great VaPer (virginia-perique), but please pace yourself on it, slow is really better on that one.

or, yes, go in to a local that has loose blends (if you have one), and ask for an tour of the major styles.

Love the English Blends for sure...seem to give off less tongue bite.

Thanks for all the replies, ive been smoking aromatics and have been running into some pretty heavy grugling. Not a big english fan, i like flavorfull aromatics more. Is the gurgling because of the new pipe or do i need to dry out the tobacco a little bit first.
