  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

What is it about a Fine ashtray...?

I have to admit Im looking for an exquisite cigar ashtray, there are thousands of them and it's purpose...to catch ashes. Why do you need an assorted collection of ashtrays to make the cigar experience complete?

Sometimes all you have is a bunch of rolled leaves and a flame. Other times you could be lighting a padron 80th with an opus x lighter, flicking the ash in your dunhill ashtray. In both cases your experience will be complete... as long as youre enjoying yourself, thats what matters.

Purchased the Xikar HC ashtray yesterday - probably the most extravagant accessory purchase I've ever had. That thing is just beautiful. I can't wait to use it the first time.

I have been using a jar I got from a used candle to ash into. Its pretty lame but at least I can just screw the lid back on when I am done and you can't smell it as much.

Not sure Brotha's, but I just gotta get that one or two that stands out. If you think about it we could be smoking any ole stick no matter full, medium, mild etc..etc....have any ole lighter any ole cutter any ole humidor but for most of us we don't. We put time in effort in choosing each piece down to the beads or gel , everything has to be right. What started out as being something I just wanted to try because I loved the smell transformed into a full blown addiction, not in a bad way I"m learning a lot from my cigar smoking experience I love this more then I ever imagined...I know it sounds a little corny but true, it opened me up to BOTL, I mean I can go on & on......

I never saw the need for an 'exquisite' ashtray yet I do seem to collect them. I probably have about 20 different ones in ceramic, crystal, glass, wood, metal, etc.. They may be branded or generic. But the ashtray that I keep going back to over and over again is my $20 chrome Stinky - bright and shiny, traditional deep bowl shape, highly functional - I'll proudly use it for my cheapest stick or a $35 Padron, whether alone or with 3 friends. But to each his own - good luck with your search.

I love the Perolo crystal ashtrays that were made about 10 years ago..... I have a couple.. and that Xikar HC crystal one is cool too....
but my favorite is the one that my machine shop made out of 5 inch gun shell casing when I was in command...
I put a little brass plaque on them that said "A good smoke is always on target!".....

Expensive accessories in general aren't any more useful than the cheap ones. The same can be said for any functional item, though: get the cheapest, most efficient version.

But, where's the fun in that? Here are my little toys:

I used to just let the ash drop over the side of my deck if I was at home, or in the generic ashtray at the bar. However lately I have been using an old ceramic crock. Works just as nice as an expensive one.

I have 5 or 6 ashtrays, but mostly just use my big Tatuaje one. They all do the same thing, but I do like having one that is nicer looking for some reason. Maybe because I take a lot of cigar pics for my review site and like a nice ashtray for the picture.
