When is a gifted cigar not much of a gift?

When a beginner friend gives me a nice Oliva that he had sitting out for a few weeks (he has no humidor). His heart was in the right place, but the cigar sure wasn't. I left it in my humidor for a few weeks, but it could'nt be saved. As soon as I cut it, the wrapper came off. As I tried to smoke it, it completely unraveled.

Bummer. Kind of the same thing when some one gives you a "Authentic Cuban" when you know (or find out) that it isn't. You just say thank you very much and go on down the road.

I had this happen to me about 2-3 weeks ago. Got a nice 5r of specialty rolled sticks from Tampa from my in-laws neighbor. They sat on their kitchen counter for over a week before I got them. Still in the humi right above the beads...gunna give them another few weeks before trying one...

It's the thought that counts.... You can educate your friend, maybe if he likes cigars... teach him about the humidity needs etc...

He knows he needs a humidor - just hasn't gotten around to getting one. When he does, I'l help him set it up.
