  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Why am I always dissapointed

With Davidoff cigars. I have tried many cigars from Davidoff and there is just something in there flavor profile that doesn't work for me. I have tried AVO's, the new Winston Churchills, Platinum sceptres, Griffins and they all have a mushroomy earthy tobacco in them. Does any one know what kind of tobacco this is so I can avoid buying more cigars like them. Though I must say Davidoff construction is always perfect just not the right flavors for me.

Its just the way that Kelner blends his sticks. They all have that very earthy, grassy, i have even heard it called musty, profile. There are only a few that I like from Kelner. I think the AVO Domaine is a great stick, I have had some Millenium blends that are good with some age on them and the Griffin Limited Sticks (this year was the 24 I believe) are good. Other than that I steer clear of Davidoff and Kelner. It is not so much the tobacco here that you are having a problem with as it is the way it is blended (i think at least). I wouldn't avoid the tobacco based on one particular blender, the same tobacco with a different blend may end up being one of your favorites. The more you try the better you know what you like. The tobacco is from the Dominican to answer your original question, i think that is true for all that you mentioned. The wrappers and binders have varying countries of origin though.

I like the AVO Domaine and the signature series too. If you don't like them, don't buy them. They are expensive sticks so you can buy alot of other smokes with that money.

Glad somebody went out on a limb with this post. All the ones I have tried left me thinking,,,WTF,,,but when everyone sees the band or watches you make the purchase it's always, "Oh, you're going to love this cigar",,,,,annnnnnnnnnddd fail.

They were quite mild but that wasn't so much my issue. I think I made it through about 3/4 of an inch on the big winston churchill and trashed it to go get a better cigar. And that is the story for most Davidoff stuff. I have also found the same taste in bahia cigars and a small amount in gurkha black dragons as well. Thats why I was trying to figure out if it is a specific strain of dominican tobacco or what.

I think you need to try the limited releases like the Davidoff 100th Anniversary Diademas Finas, AVO LE05's, LE07's, & Davidoff Millenniun's series. All of them I enjoy but they are not cheap by any means.

I tried the AVO 80 with no luck. And really price means almost nothing... I live in Canada the land of enormous Cigar taxes. Generally we pay $20 for any thing decent in a robusto size and it goes up from there. An example is PAM 1926 #9 $20ish in the US here they are $55. If I can buy cigars in the US they are all cheap.

I like the Reserva 12 and the Winston Churchill.

I got some Winston's left from the initial release last year and they are smoking beautifully right now.

I've never tried any of the Davidof or AVO lines, so I can't comment on those, but I have had cigars that the word "musty" describes perfectly. Most are cigars that other people love and I just think "Really? It tastes like a basement to me."

The Davidoff Millenium & Winston Churchills aren't lacking in flavor.
I don't smoke them very often, but they make great special occasion smokes.
