OK folks. I'm one of those guys who likes to obsess about things that I can't do right away.

As I've mentioned before, I'm going the Wine Cooler route come October (my birthday). So, I'm looking for help from all those knowledgable folks out there. Give me some options on coolers that are out there. I want it to be at least in the high 20's as far as bottle count goes, and probably keeping it under the $4-500 mark would be good (though $2-300 would be all the much better).

I want thermo-electric. I'm not handy, and I fear electricity. So I prefer something that doesn't need any modifications. I saw something on temp controllers on CW that looked good and shouldn't need any real wiring skills, so that's fine. But if I can get away with it I'm not dealing with wiring in fans.

Sooooooooooooooo....what say you? Suggestions? Links to great deals? "Wine Cooler Porn"?:eyebrow:

Here's one I found that might fit the bill but may also be a bit out of the price range you stated. It has an auto cycle defrost that I would imagine wouldn't be too good for storing cigars but it also advertises in having "humidity reservoirs". Here are a few links to the same product:

Here's a link to the product manual:

Hope this helps out some,

Brian,

Thanks. Not sure I can get something that big past the wife though...also, I can't find anything that says whether or not it's thermo-electric vs compressor. The auto defrost makes me think compressor?

Nice looking cooler though.

i've got a 30 count Haier that holds well over 20 boxes (because i've got about 6 different sized cabs in there and still have room - and i'm counting the cabs as a "box").

HERE is an older photo of mine. in this photo, there are 17 boxes, and you notice i have plenty of room left over. the "hot pink" blobs are the cheap pair of knee-high stockings i got at wal-mart for under $1, figured i'd go as gawdy as possible, so i got hot pink. just put half the climmax in each, tie a knot, you're done. i know others who bought 2 pair of nylons, put 1/4 in each, and have 1 of them on each level....

i have 1 lb of climmax media, a small computer fan in the bottom on a timer (with the ac/dc converter wires ran through the drip hole on the bottom), set to run for 10 minutes every 2 hours. the Haier has a temp setting of UP TO 65* F.

you can get this exact Haier at a lowes store for roughly 230-260 or so (if i remember correctly). then add the price of the fan, the converter, the climmax, and the digital timer, it was just barely over $300. i also bought a wireless hygrometer/thermometer at radio shack for $39 a few months later.

hope this helps.

IHT, you da man. That's just about perfect. I really don't need anything bigger than that (at this point, that is...never know when Wasch_24 disease will kick in ). And the price is just about right. Any info on the AC/DC converter?

Damn, now I'm gonna be :blob: and checking the calender :)sadpace: ) for the next 5 months!

I have the same haier and if you wanted to do fans you can buy the Oust air freshener fans that sell at the grocery store for about $6 a piece. They run on a D battery and I placed two of them up top with Velcro and they run for 5 min and off for 15 min and cycle back. They may not look like much but they work great and just a lb of cilmmax and you are set. I took out about 3 shelves and use the lower area for boxes and bought ceder racks from BH to hold singles and you can fit two per shelf and have six inside. You can set the temp of the Haier to 68 deg and my humidity temp runs (68 to 65 deg and 65 to 63% RH) at all times.

I pretty much have the same set up as IHT....But I have humidity issues with the very bottom....so I got another 1/2lb of humidity beads for the bottom. I hope that helps. I like the idea of the Oust Air fresheners. May have to pick one up for the top. Good luck. PM me if you have any questions.

David,

Can you post or PM a basic rundown of costs? Cost is the main reason I've been looking at the wine cellar option...

Sorry for the confusion. I build cooled cabinets but I cannot sell them any where close to the price of a converted wine cooler.
