I don't know the rules on this, so if this is a problem I will delete the thread. I spent some time at the Woodford Reserve Distillery today for a story for our local news. They are set to expand their visitors center and build more warehouses so they can produce more bourbon. If you are ever in the Versailles, KY area I strongly suggest you visit and take a tour.

I love Woodford and bourbon in general is my drink of choice. That being said, does anyone else feel like this bourbon boom could result in a bust of sorts? All of the big distilleries are expanding production, what happens when (if) the bubble bursts?

The folks from Woodford that we talked to that day were explaining that they are just now expanded to more and more countries and that is where most of the growth is coming from. So its almost like a new market. Will the bubble burst eventually? Compare it to the housing market burst maybe. Too much inventory drove prices down. But we are slowly recovering as the market adjusts.

Well that's good news, hopefully the other countries see bourbon as the great product it is and not just another fad. Thanks for sharing, btw.

We can only hope! I'd be more inclined to guess the smaller companies will fold and less great bourbon will be produced.

Coincidentally I may have to take a trip over seas (Middle East) and when I looked up cigar bars etc I only recall seeing 1 say they had whiskies. Most of them touted cognacs armanacs and cocktails of sorts. So maybe that expansion is a good thing. It's not like a new market it Seems that it actually IS a new market.
And the housing market bubble was created by inflated inaccurate housing values combined with irresponsible lending practices. It had to burst because the houses were never worth the asking prices, and people were lent money they could not repay (ARM's for example) which lead to defaults/foreclosures devaluation no more loans empty brand new homes blah blah... not just because they built more houses.
Sorry but it's the only thing the wife ever said "you were right about that, good call" so we waited and got our house about 250k below what they originally listed it for by just waiting lol

Yeah probably a bad comparison. And Tobacco Giant is probably right, if there is a burst smaller companies will fold while larger ones will scale back production and lay people off.

It depends on how much they've spent on expansion compared with their profits, if they don't match it could be trouble.

You have to figure there will be a market correction, but I don't think we are near that point.
