  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

The man in the Brown truck stopped by today. Woot! My new Xikar "Allume" single jet arrived!

Ok - it was hard to get too excited. I have a few lighters going on - just none that I really got a love going on with. I bought this lighter as an everyday carry lighter because:
  • If you place it upside down, it deactivates it (nice feature in a lighter)
  • It doesn't have a lid (which is good because I always find those lids that don't fold over completely to be a pain)
  • It was compact
I opened my package and I got to tell you... right off the bat, not much excitement going on. First, the butane canisters I ordered with it - are tiney!!

- the picture doesn't fully capture how small this bottle is

Then I note that the lighter is made in China... arg. Pot metal and plastic no doubt (I don't know why I thought it was made in the USA, I just did).

But it doesn't take long for that disappointment to be dispelled. The lighter is small!! Small and solid feeling. Starting to get excited.

- look at how small this thing is... almost cute.

So now I am getting rather happy! Tough and small. This will fit in the watch pocket of my jeans with no discomfort whatsoever! Woot. I fill it up with gas. Time to see if it will function. Well DANG - this thing throws out one heck of a flame!! I am really happy now lol.

- and that's not even at it's highest!

So yeah. I am well pleased so far. It sits in my hand like a champ. Shoots a flame like no other single I own. And deactivates when upside down. And did I tell you it was small?

I have been messing with it for only about half an hour so I can't speak to any kind of longevity or durability, but i'll update this thread as time goes by. Right now I am glad I got it.

Those cans are tiny, but I've noticed from my xikar ex, and from other posts that xikar lighters are real picky about fluid quality. Sweet lighter too been wanting to pick one up aswell
I have two other Xikar lighters and I can tell you that both of those had full on tantrums on the stuff I got at Walmart (can't recall what it was called - was fun when we shot it though :) ).

They like Vector butane just fine. This is the first time I have used the Xikar fuel, I can only imagine they test it on their products for compatibility. I hope.

That's the thing that I love about my 1 year old Ronson. It'll eat up any fluid I feed it and light up without issue. It'd be nice if they would make something a hit fancier for us cigar guys.

I was looking at one the other day at my local pharmacy. It really is a plain Jane lighter isn't it?

If it wasn't that I lived in KS where the wind blows 90% of the time, and that I smoke more often when I am on the move (dog walking, golf course), I would use matches more. I have those 4" jobs - freaking love lighting my cigars with a match.

Glad the code and lighter all worked out so far for you. Fantastic little lighter...I think you made the right choice over the other "option" you were considering. Enjoy!

Thanks brother. The more I handle it, the more I like it. As you point out, the heft really adds to the experience.

The "other" option is on the back burner... for now at least :).

Thanks again.

I have another Xikar lighter, the ones with the coloured lines that run through it in yellow. At first, I wasn't sure. But its grown on me. I am sure yours will grow on you too - easier to find!!
