  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Anyone have one of these and if so, is it worth the cost? I'm thinking that, along with the stingray pouch would be a pretty nice gift to myself but it is on the pricey side...

I have a few of the Xi3 cutters with the Stingray Case. They Are the best cutters I have used. I do not have the Mayan but I want the Mammoth Fossil. I will get around to it at some point.

Pretty tight looking cutter. I don't know how comfortable it would be to use in comparison to the smooth handle pieces, but it's certainly imposing. If you are spending that kind of money but ran into a hitch with money maybe you could do something custom and just buy your base cutter now... Looking at the page, I'm thinking a set of Desert Ironwood or Narra burl handles would be sick... Then again, that's nothing like the cutter you are digging on... Just my .02.

I have on of these cutters and I must say it cuts better than my Xi1 and Xi2 cutters. Seems like the blade is a bit sharper for some reason. It came with the stingray case and a nice display box. I don't like to take it out much because at an event it will walk away. Easy to use because the blades are really sharp. I asked a jeweler friend if he could do something similar and he said it probably wouldn't be worth it -- meaning it would cost over $1000 just for him to do a one-off kind of deal.

That is a beautiful cutter that's for sure. There is something about the shape of the xikar Xi cutters that just fits right in my hand. The cut is flawless. I've had the cutter for 2 weeks now I've smoked about 6 sticks just cause I love the cut and the sticks of course. This will definitely be my cutter for the long foreseeable future.

The blades on all of the XI3 cutters are polished vs the brushed look of the XI 1/2's. They seem sharper cause they glide through the tobacco much easier.

ALL of the XI3's will cut the same. You are simply paying for the design of the Mayan.

I wouldn't trade my XI3 for anything!

I have the Mayan 3D and it is my favorite xikar cutter ever made. I must also mention though, that that is exactly the reason why I bought it. As you have heard, it cuts just like the other xi3 blades. I might even say that it cuts about the same as my first xikar- a $25 plastic guillotine. Maybe it's a little better, but that could just be me too. The point is that they both do the job quite well. I bought it cause I figured that since it was my favorite, I wouldn't really be 100% satisfied with a different model. Plus, I plan to be smoking cigars for basically the rest of my life, which is a long time considering I am pretty young for the average cigar smoker. My cost per year owning this will be extremely minimal and worth it to me. The lifetime warranty does give me some comfort in making the purchase, the xikar blade quality is very high, and the general mechanism of cutter is solid. This one is really heavy compared to some other xikars, which I love. It feels great in your hand. It's similar in weight to the titanium xi3; one which I would highly recommend if you don't want to shell out all the money for the Mayan 3d. Overall, I'm extremely happy with the purchase. I would recommend this if 1) you already have the discretionary money for it 2) you liked this cutter more than all others before considering its "limited" status, xi"3"ness, or other marketing ploys 3) and you are purchasing it to be used well- whether for long term or short term (in other words, don't buy a Ferrari and not drive it to its limit for fear of braking it, or damaging its look, etc.- what's the point?). Oh and one more thing- DON'T LOSE IT! Yeah, that's quite key. If those questions are no obstacle for you then by all means make the purchase and enjoy it guilt free. JMHO
