  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Does anyone know if the z-plus insert will work with older model Zippos, like the 1930s that are 1/8 inch shorter?

Well, it's cheap, so if ye get one, there's always the modding if it's too thick. We could brainstorm a tad; I was once a Zippo collector, trickster and moder.

Boy, I don't know. Here is a pic of the insert next to my old Zippo (early 90s), and it doesn't look to me like there is an extra 1/8 inch to spare. It may work if the body of the lighter is the same length. The body on mine is 1 5/16" outside measurement, the lid is just shy of 7/8". I'm not sure if you could mod the body of the Zplus, since it doesn't look to me like there's any extra material.

If you are looking at getting the Z-Plus, I would recommend purchasing the Thunderbird by Vector instead. I got a couple of the Z-Plus inserts right when they first came out a few years back, and they have never worked very well at all. The Thunderbirds are made by Vector/KGM and are awesome!!! Much more reliable. It might be the altitude that messes with my Z-Plus inserts, but they have never worked for me. The Thunderbirds on the other hand work great!

Tyler, Roman is kind of an old school nut, he enjoys the history of the Zippo so I think that's where his interest lies. Of course, I don't mean to speak for him, just recalling conversations we've had. The Thunderbird has been a great lighter though, good recommendation.

Wade, you know that the Thunderbird is an insert for the Zippo, right?

It's a really nice soft flame insert that takes butane instead of Zippo fluid. Just thought I'd suggest it to anyone who is interested, and if he's old school he'll like the soft flame instead of the torch!

Seriously, you have a DuPont you bastard!? I was thinking of a lighter we carry called a Thunderbird, totally different produce, didn't know there was a different insert. Roman, looks like you may have a winner here.
Yeah, I got it for myself as a birthday present last year! [ame="http://www.botl.org/community/forums/showthread.php?t=21964"]New Toy - BOTL Cigar Forums - Brothers of the Leaf[/ame]

And the Thunderbird insert is awesome because it has the wheel on it and looks just like a Zippo, which would be cool if he's putting it into an older one.
You can also get the insert for pipe lighters, where the flame goes out the side.

Wade, you know, having trouble restraining myself from posting too much.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Mark, I appreciate the image; not much room for error. Looks like I will get a more modern zippo.

Happy holidays,

BTW, not a fan of the z-plus, broke in a couple days, but in any case feels off inside a zippo.
