Today's Bourbon

Garfield's got in a single barrel pick of Horse Soldier Cask Strength. I love the company's mission and a lot of their story, but at $114 I wanted a try first.

Nose is very light and non-descript for 116 proof. Very grain forward on the palate. Finish is long and nice, but I just can't get over the grain taste and kind of thin mouth feel. I'll wait for their next one.

At that price and it being grain forward sounds like a hard pass with way too much young whiskey in it. I'm sure you'll see that in coming months at half price

Stopped at Binny's, only drop was Knob Creek 12 Year. Talked to my guy and he told me that people from several Binny's stores participated in a March-Madness style tourney with bourbons that are regularly on the shelf and easy to find. He said many of them were astounded by the blind tasting results. Number 2 in the contest was Clark & Sheffield Barrel Proof. It's by Barton and it's 125 proof, so I'm thinking 1792 FP, which I like a lot. They made it their "Pick of the Week" and had it at $26. Certainly worth a shot at between $13 and $23 less than 1792 FP locally.
