the salty cigar thread got me thinking,(especially now that i am back in afcrapistan again and am bored) I got a 1964 family reserve from a B&M near chicago and it tasted like perfume to me and there have been others but cant remember their names. I have had salty cigars before and figured it was sweat which is gross but I am sure it happens and I've dealt with a lot worse so it didnt really bother me... anyway any of you guys aver get that perfume taste in cigars? i personally didnt like it and didnt know if that was the flavor profile or not as i havent had another 1964 and cant remember what the other cigar was that tasted like that.

really hope it isnt a flavor profile and am showing my newbie colors.

If the cigars are stored in the same humidor as, say, an acid or another flavor infused cigar given enough time all the cigars will taste like that acid.

I'm assuming you're talking about a Padron 1964 Anniversary or if they were Family reserves, they should be a 45, 46, 80 etc, (you can tell by the second band. first band will have the 1964 with the hammer in the middle), regardless, its possible that they were in a humi with some acids. Thats the only plausible reason for a Padron to taste like perfume. Cocoa, Coffee maybe but definitely not perfume. Did it have a perfume scent to it before lighting it?

Funny enough I have. My last Boris I smoked had this very floral almost perfume like taste. I have never had any flovored cigars in my chest so that is not the reason. I think in my case, time had caused a flavor shift to the floral taste. How old was the stick you were smoking?

your right it was the 1964 anniversary, and it was in a very nice B&M that did have acids but they were not near this box, heck i think every B&M has acids these days. The cigar didnt have any odd smells to it that would lead me to think it had cross contamination. thats what i am gonna call it lol... was just wondering if it was a flavor profile that i was not aware of, kinda of floral not that weird botanical mix i get from an acid cigar. I guess ill have to try another to see if I am a loon or if it was a bad cigar.

I think your Taste buds were F-ing with you. Either that or someone swapped a band at the B&M. Padron is a solid, full flavored smoke that has nothing to do with any perfume profiles. Almost a sin to even say it!

Tasting like perfume? I would think perfume has a chemical taste to it. Are you referring to smelling like perfume, like in floral? I have gotten the cologne spray in my mouth and it taste nothing like it smells. As far as cigar 'flavors' and notes, yes floral is one of them. The smells triggers an association in the brain by firing certain neurons and receptors, referencing when we have smelled that before. So, you may pick up on notes of things you can't quite put your finger on, but you know somewhere you have experienced that before. I have had cigars bring back memories of being around those old Army green tents, they just have a certain smell, that is hard to describe, just you never forget it.

I have had more than my share of soapy tasting cigars, sometimes the rollers don't rinse their hands well enough after washing them (or so I was told). However most of those were CC's.

Amonia smell I can understand, but I've not had any soapy taste that I can remember. I've experienced floral tastes but only in a very subtle way, nothing that I could equate to perfume, unless an infused cigar of some sort was involved. To absorb the infused flavors a regular cigar would almost have to be stored in the same box. Don't think an open air humidor would allow the flavors to mix together.
