  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City cigar shop clerk said a homeless man came into the store moments after police said he robbed a bank Tuesday.

The store is called The Outlaw, and it sits across the street from the Bank of the West branch that was robbed Tuesday afternoon. The store's clerk, Dirick Matteson, said Daniel Vermeer, 52, bought a Nicaraguan cigar for $3.75.

"He came in and went straight to the bathroom," Matteson said. "(He) said he wanted to get a cigar when he got back from going to the bathroom."

The cigar was his only purchase, Matteson said. Police said he came into the store with $5,000 in a plastic bag.

"Not a very big purchase for somebody that just robbed a bank," said Matteson.

Employees said they watched as the man walked into a smoking lounge and looked out the window as police closed in on the parking lot. Vermeer left the store and was arrested moments later, police said.

"It's not a good place to go if you're trying to get away from a crime robbery," Matteson said. "It's a good place to go to get away from life, but not that way."

The store said police later confiscated the money that Vermeer used to pay for the cigar.

According to court documents, Vermeer went into a wooded area after the robbery to change clothes before going to the cigar shop. He is in federal custody while he awaits a detention hearing.

Makes you wonder what other crazy sorts stop by for a smoke...Meeting some of the brothers at the HERF's I've had my suspicions as well. :pokemyeye:bouncetau
Seriously though...It's good to know no one there got hurt and he got arrested without issue.

Sounds like somebody was trying to get into prison, not trying to get away.

Sounds like it. Jail might be better than homeless. I bet that cigar may have been on of the best he's ever smoked, based on the circumstances

Yup, 3 square a day with a bed to sleep on and out of the elements. Sounds better to me, he probably has to put up with people trying to beat him up out on the street too, so that wouldn't be all that different either, at least he won't be hungry.
