looking for cheap humidor

hey all was just wondering what i should look for in a "budget" humidor...i need one and dont really have alot to spend i looked into coolidors but not sure if i need that much storage space ...looking to store maybe 20ish

On the cheap get some tuppaware and some boveda packs. Walmart has some that will hold 30-40 easily.

Small desktop humis go for less than $50 on cbid all the time... Shouldn't be too hard to find something of ok quality that is affordable there...

Another option is a tupperador...

You can pick up a 16 quart piece of sterlite snapware at target for about $7.. Another $5 for a boveda... And you've got an excellent poor mans storage system...

if you are in for like twenty bones, yeah, do some lock top plasticware with humidification. only downside, other than aesthetic, is total seal. as it will not breathe at all on it's own, i myself would vent it weekly (assuming you smoke less than one a week).

get a new piece to avoid any odor transfers. get some boveda packs. hell, even get some spanish cedar blocks and sheets (ask your local, they come in many boxes, and are essentially packing material, so free if you ask nice!) to help regulate the humidity, and fill volume.

this is THE most effective storage for a budget, hands down, and it WILL do right by your smokes. then, you can take your time and gradually look around for an actual humidor down the road. took me like a year and a half to two years to outgrow my first tupperdor into my first actual box.

+1. It seems like a large number of guys who have really large and nice humi's also do this for their over flow. So you know it's a good option.

+2. Tupperdor is definitely the best option for a budget. And like Chrisso said, once you can afford a desktop you can still keep the tupperware for overflow.

Tupperdor - good option and fairly cheap.

Famous, Cigar.com & Cigar International have under $100 packages with a small desktop some cheap cigars, humi, cutter & lighter out there.
Ive seen them Im thinking as low at $40 for the package.

Call Ccom and talk to them, they probably have a reasonable 30-40 package with a small humi.

Or post up in the ISO area after you have hit your time and someone may be able to get you a used one if you cover the shipping.

For that kind of money you're going to have a hard time finding a humidor with a decent seal, thick enough walls to maintain temperature and humidity and any Spanish cedar. I agree with others on this thread that you'd do much better to go the Tupperware/Boveda route.

A cheap humi is just that...CHEAP......Use a tupperware,and spend your $$$ on better sticks.Do invest in a digital hygrometer,it will help you keep from over humidifying your sticks now and later when you buy a good humi.AND,buy a MUCH bigger one than you think you need,it is amazing how fast you can fill a humi..............

Tupperware is cheap, effective and reliable... However if you're looking to get that traditional humidor feel or look, I would recommend this one on amazon.

I used it for 2 months before I became overwhelmed by this hobby and started collecting cigars. I've since moved on to a wine cooler. I was very happy with the quality and aroma of the cedar. It worked very well.

Heres a couple of things I learned.
1) If you're buying a small desktop humidor, get a glass top. It will allow you to be able to peek at your cigars and check the RH without disturbing them.
2) A digital hygrometer is a must! They're about $15 on Amazon too.
3) If you're on this forum, you're most likely on your way to outgrowing that 50 count humi very soon.

The BOTL are giving you some good advice. I have about 10 Tupperadors of varying sizes...you can get some that will hold up to 150 cigars or more depending on what size vitola you have. Walmart has them for around $8 and they are just as good as any wood humidor out there.

Agree with all the above on a tupperdor. But just keep in mind in about a month or 2 you will be looking more closely into a coolidor :cbig:

The only advice I can give is to buy a bigger unit than you think you need...

Then you can go buy another one in a few months cause you will run out of room anyway.

Best advice, always buy bigger! I bought a 25 when I started... Then a 50.... Then a 100.... Then a 300, then i finally pulled the trigger on a wine cooler. Now I'm on 2 coolers and I had a ton of humidors I was stuck with. Always by bigger then you will need.

So the Cooler (igloo, etc) is a great option once you get up and running.
but you do have to purchase some beads or humidification device.
....
For a small humi 20 count, look in the deals thread, nice small humi w\ some cigars and a lighter for $30.
Go for it.
