  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I'm in the middle of a transaction through payfail and the big auction site (not the cigar one). This is my first time selling there and I was wondering if anyone had any tips from experience or things they've heard about avoiding scams, etc.

Instantly transfer the $ to your bank account
I tried doing this, but apparently I have to ship with the money in my payfail account first. I guess the reason is that otherwise I could charge and not send anything. But, there is a hold until three days after the buyer receives the item or 21 days after the sale (whichever is first). So, the money is in the pay fail account-I just cant transfer it out yet. Payfail says this is a security measure for Eastern Bay sales in case any problems arise during the transaction. Any reason to be worried there, or is that pretty standard?

IIRC this waiting period of 21 days (or until positive feedback is left?) is sort of a temporary thing for new users- my guess is it ensure that you aren't just creating ** accounts to scam people and are actually using it properly. When I started I had this limitation but it was lifted after a couple sales/weeks and then I could instantly transfer to my bank account or spend the $ using my ****** debit card.

So in short that money is safe as long as you do your end properly and also make sure to ALWAYS get a tracking number or delivery confirmation number.

Back when I first started seeking stuff on eBay and was skeptical like you, I would print this shipping label, pack the box, but before shipping I would take a picture with the contents in the box an the label in the picture... I know if it came to it that wouldn't actually serve as proof but it made me feel better about it.
