  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

To hell with this shitty day....

And cheers to hopefully a better day tomorrow. I was informed today at work that I will probably have to change my shift. Meaning, that instead of working 8-5, i will have to work 10-7. This sucks because my kids are still in school. I will miss all of there sports again. I just got this day shift last year. And it's been great. Especially since my wife recently got promoted, she is out of town a lot. So I have really been able to step in and pickup those duties. I work for Time Warner Cable. I love my job. Great pay, great benefits and overall, an easy job. But this blows. It's corporate stepping in. They change shit all the time. With little to no regard for us, as technicians. I've had a number of jobs, from retail, to HVAC, and they've all sucked or ran their course. This shift change is based on performance then seniority. I "celebrated" my fifth year Sunday. So I'm lower on the totem pole. As far as performance, I'm one of the 3 best in our zone. However, most of those guys have fudged their numbers along the way, to make themselves look better. They've been reprimanded on a local level, but not much has been done, because it never seemed to matter. Well now it does. They look at our numbers over the past year and see that mine are lower than some. And by lower, I mean fractions of points. And I dont fudge mine. I am a better tech. They know it. I know it, and my boss knows it. But because this is all done by corporate, this is official. Nothing my boss can do. He's went to bat for me, and he's just a peon when it comes to battling corporate. So it sucks. I'm pissed. Depressed and stressed. I went thru the motions to have it changed and alas, here I sit. Bitching. Haha. I will now have to rely on my parents and her parents to help out with the kids. They can, and gladly will. But that's besides the point. Just blows. I know, I should be happy that I'm still employed, have a house, great kids and wife, and a family that will help out. I'm just venting. My wife is out of town, so you are my "wives" today! Hahaha. Anyway, I sit with 2 fingers of Makers Mark and an Epernay to drown my sorrow. So gents, let's make tomorrow a better day. Cheers.

That sucks man. Couple guys where I work have a shift like that and love it. But their spouses do not travel for work. I can see where this is a really shitty situation for you. And I hate to say it and it will sound cliche, but at least you have a job and seem to really enjoy the work.

Not cliche bro. Is really the best and only point. I'll get over it, but the bee just stung me, and I can't get the stinger out.

I've dealt with that in my career and worked a gravy day shift and then to Graveyard which pretty much screwed me over...my health and any social life whatsoever. The powers that be seem to always want to "change" things and then call it a Challenge or Opportunity....the buzz words that mean one thing...we're going to FU and and hide behind our own structure. The only thing you can do is go along with it...don't let em know your pissed...you play out the hand you're given and do what you need to do to get back on day shift.

I know how you feel. I work either 12 hr Day or night shifts. They rotate every 4 months then I have 4 months of 4/10 every weekend off. Well this last shift I had to skip 4/10s and work an extra nightshift. I hate not being able to coach my sons baseball. Hell I miss half the games too! I know how you feel..

Damn. It could be worse i guess. And I know that. I'm just a pessimist at heart unfortunately. I don't want you guys to think I'm some prissy bitch. Haha. I went back and reread that and it looks as if I'm whining. Hope you guys didn't get the wrong idea. Looks as if the standard M-F, 7-330 is a thing of the past, eh?

dude, you DO have a job. and a wife and kids. and even family that is willing to step in and help. that part does NOT suck, try to focus on that.

that said, i can relate to having a schedule change absolutely undermine everything you had going on, and that DOES SUCK. it is just a two hour shift to look at it, but that can and will change the entire dynamic of your days and weeks. lean on your family, both to help out and just to talk it out, and make sure that, if you can do something with the kids (or your wife, or family), you DO. just don't beat yourself up if you can't.
