Sounds SO wrong! I tend to prefer larger ring gauge cigars, 54+. I see a lot of lanceros in the cigar porn and am curious. Do you notice a difference from the other vitolas? :cbig:

BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE
Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

i get better burn with less attention smoking larger ring cigars. the tradoff for me is less depth of flavor.
smaller rings, while being more particular in their burn, requiring better lighting and pacing, can pack bigger flavors, and more nuanced.

Huge difference. Smaller RG provide more flavor, generally speaking. This is because there is less filler in the stick, making the wrapper/filler ratio much higher. Lanceros have small RG and lots of wrapper leaf which is why many brothers enjoy them and coronas as preferable vitolas. The majority of cigars flavor comes from the wrapper so when you add more and more filler you dilute the flavor from the wrapper in a manner of speaking.

God just choked on my beer. Different blends shine on different rg cigars. So it would depend on the filler,binder, and wrapper as to which flavors you prefer.

I prefer the smaller RG as well due to flavor. But I have obviously had some flavor packed larger ones as well. Would absolutely love to try a LP lance
my go to stick size is a robusto, i rock the ADHD so larger ring gauges or longer cigars with long burn times tend to loose my interest.

For me I love a larger cigar with a 54 or 56 being my favorite sizes. It's true that the thiner rings have more flavor but I sacrifice that for the feel of a real cigar if you will. Not to say I won't smoke any ring gauge but being an ex-cigarette smoker, smaller ring gauges such as lance's bother me making me feel like I'm holding a cigarette once more. I know...crazy right.

I used to smoke big ring gauge cigars exclusively, but my go to sticks were ligero heavy Dominicans (think LFD DL 700's etc)... I've started getting more into smaller ring gauges with the blends I know I like, but some powerhouse blends are still too much for me in the small RG's. Now I smoke robusto and lancero sticks almost exclusively... I feel like I get more flavor variance rather than just "wood, coffee, smoke" like I do in the big RG's. Try the different sizes of a stick you know you like and see if you notice a difference (positive or negative)! I was blown away by the differences between the My Father no.2 and No.4!

While i personally prefer the smaller RG cigars, there are many BOTL that prefer the large ones. You owe it to yourself to try them all and see how you like them.
Olivia V Lanceros are very good, inexpensive, and readily available.

The biggest thing is they more care must go in to the smoking of a smaller cigar. You have to draw more slowly and less frequently so you don't overheat the cigar. But the payoff is a richer flavor.
