Steve posted this on Reddit:

"First off - it was ABSOLUTELY on good terms - DE has been my life for the last eight years and it just came down to I could no longer have my family in NH and live here, Miami and Nicaragua all while being the CEO of a company as dynamic as Drew Estate. I was basically spending 4 or 5 nights a month with my wife, and JD/MS/MC, the whole crew understood and was very compassionate and we worked out a transition plan that was 100% equitable for all.
So my take on it is two fold: it is a good thing, but I will admit I am sad to be departing as I will miss being part of the DE family."

Retiring or waiting out that 2 year non-compete and doing his own thing?
Uh yeah, ^^this^^. Will be interesting to see what the man who gave us Liga Privada #9 has cooking once he's done "retiring". Best of luck with the fishing Steve, better rest up 'cause I have a feeling that you'll be a busy man in a couple of years.

Um... sheesh, I am not dead. <snicker>

I have actually intentionally been -not- posting or face booking or twittering or visting stores while we were doing this transition, but now that I am back to being just a regular joe cigar smoker I expect I will start attending herfs, hanging in stores and rambling online.

I just can't get anyone free cigars anymore, hmm... maybe I am dead?!?!

Congrats!!! Being able to sit on a fishing boat smoking cigars sounds about as relaxing as you can get. Very jealous my friend! But you earned it!

Tough choice Steve, but you have to take care of family and health first. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. You definitely left your stamp on DE.

As long as Steve stays a brother he can do whatever. Just keep us posted on the catches of the day. He will become the cigar smoke fish guide.

never really did care for Drew Estates cigars - primarily because I'm old school and I don't like flavored infused cigars. I missed Steve's blog, writing on ASC 20+ years ago and most recently here. Hopefully he'll have time to post on BOTL more of that rather just fish full-time.

Steve - welcome back to being a "cigar citizen" like the rest of us.
