I just wanted to see if any others B&M's do this as well and also what would be a price range for a beginner set of brushes, razor, bowl, stand etc. go for?
Thanks,
Shawn
While I would prefer to put togather my own set. (PM me if your seriously interested) Here is a pretty good one IMO: http://www.italianbarber.com/wet-shaving-starter-kit-with-ej89l-and-proraso-balm

You wont need a bowl as your cream is in the Proraso tub

You also mention a stand. They have some on their site. (Italian Barber) And I'm sure they are good. I just prefer the looks of this style of stand better. So this is what I have: http://www.westcoastshaving.com/West-Coast-Shaving-301-Razor-and-Brush-Stand-Chrome_p_1754.html

Pulled the trigger yesterday on a Merkur 34C, brush, etc. Looking forward to getting started. Hopefully, it will not take me too long to learn how to use it.

I swear you guys who straight shave have guts, I'd be so afraid of slitting my own throat. Not to mention that if I shave more than twice a week my face feels like it's been sand blasted. I can't imagine what a straight razor burn feels like.

Parker Butterfly DE with a brush and my Talylor of Old Bond Street soap, pre-oil, and aftershave... I actually ditched my beard so I could shave "more."

I get less razor burn with the straight that mach3 or Quattro blades. Less ingrown hairs too. Also if you concentrate while you shave with a straight it's quite difficult to cut yourself accidentally.

As mentioned earlier I used to use electric and I was using a preshave oil and sensitive skin aftershave lotion to ease the burn. With my pseudo-straight blade I'm using now, I can slap water on my face and do a quick shave with little burn at all. I prefer to use some lubricant, usually shave gel, which prevents pretty much any burn at all.

I got my DE safety razor the end of last week and tried it for the first time this weekend. Didnt cut myself, but I did irritate some skin... im sure with some practice I will get better.

If you got some irritation it could be a few things

The most comon are blade angle and/or too much presure.

I've also had skin irritation due to creams/soaps. As my skin is pretty sensitive to that kind of stuff.

If you don't have any. You may want to pick up some witch hazel. It does a good job of reducing skin irritation.

Congrats on going cut free on your first shave. I think it took me a few shaves to do that. Would always cut myself around my nose and upper lip area until I got my technique down better.

Cartisdm (where is that punk?) Got me on cold shaves. After you shower, hit your face with some cold water and then do the pre shave oil and soap... Way less irritation.

When we started ShavingCreams.com I got into DE wet shaving big time. I have a couple razors I use, one Parker and one Merkur that I use Astra Platinum blades with. Tried a lot of the other blades but the Astra blades are what I found to be the best. Like many have said, it takes some getting used to, but once you are, you will never go back to a mach 3 or 5 blade monster again.

I use Proraso pre-shave cream, was never a huge fan of the oils, with 10 different creams depending on the day. Hirsh Luxury Lemon is one of my fav's but I use a lot of the Taylor of Old Bond St. products too. I love being able to mix up the scents. Like cigars, this is an easy hobby to dive into quickly. But it is a MUCH better shave, not even close to be honest.

whoa there...at ease with the cold water talk...ain't nobody got time for that
It actually works, if you take the time to try it out. I was big on it for a few weeks. Then I spent time in AZ in the summer and getting cold water into the camper was impossible.

You could make Ice and then wait for it to melt, but then I do know how you feel about waiting.

I have been wet shaving and using a DE razor for about 10 days and don't see going back. My wife, however, is very sensitive to some odors and does not like the scent of a Taylor of Old Bond St. Sandalwood Shaving Cream Bowl that I only have used once. I hate to just chuck it, so if anyone would like it, PM me, and I will send it to you gratis.
