nothing wrong with either cutter.. its really just a matter of preference.. both have good blades.. good warranties.. are designed well.. etc..

I prefer the XiKar.. its what I have used almost exclusively for the past few years..

But there is zero wrong with the palio..
Ditto that.

I prefer the feel and function of the Xikar. I have the carbon fiber, it has a genuine carbon fiber finish, and feels significant in the hand. The Paleo cuts just fine, but is made of plastic with a "carbon fiber look", which doesn't feel as sturdy or durable.

Even if not for the material, I also just like the way the Xikar cuts, I always get a nice clean cut and don't have to spread my hand as far, or put them into finger holes. Not a big deal, but is just enough to swing the preference.

Both cut just fine, I prefer the Xikar myself.

If you're looking for some good knockaround cutters, grab a couple Cuban Crafter perfect cutters. They do a fantastic job, have a lifetime warranty, and are cheap! I've had a couple for going on two years and they're still sharp as ever. I keep one in each of my herf-a-dors.

I'm a xikar guy (but to be fair have zero exposure to Palio) I have picked up a few xikar cutters and a lighter and none of their stuff has ever let me down.

I'm one of the ones that prefer the xikar. My palio just doesn't cut as well, it seems to first pinch most cigars when cutting as if its blades were dull. Honestly I think I just got a bad palio and have not used its lifetime warranty to replace it
The key is you don't hesitate with your palio.. Just a quick snap closed. If you try to go slow it will do as you say.

I use my Xikar exclusively. I own a Palio but it very rarely gets used, I keep it in my car and still pull my Xikar out every morning for my drive to work cigar. I love my Xikar.

I like the Palio style cutters best only because I don't have a lot of experience with the xikar style. Funny but I have more cutters like the xikar though.

I find myself to be a Xikar guy. I own several Xikar cutters and also own a Palio.

I feel like i have better control with the Xikar cutter. I currently use an all chrome XI3 all steel cutter. I perfer the weight of the cutter.

My Palio, While it cuts well (just as good as my Xikar) I just feel like i'm holding a cheap piece of plastic. It stays at home in my humidor as a backup.

I honestly don't think anyone could go wrong with either. They are both extremely sharp and both have lifetime warranties.

I've religiously used the Palio for many many years now. I got a carbon fiber one when they first came out (making this my 2nd Palio). Finally I felt the blades were getting a bit dull and shipped it back to Palio for a free replacement. You can't complain about that. Unfortunately it only took a few weeks and the blades of my replacement Palio to get a bur and litterally ripped into each other, so the cutter is no longer useable. I have shipped this one off to Palio and am waiting on my replacement. Could it be that the quality is not what it used to be?

That being said my back up cutter is a Xikar. I have found them to be nice conversation pieces but I always felt that they were a bit awkward to use. However I must say that it has been performing exceptionally while I wait for my Palio replacement.

I don't think you can go wrong with either, but I still lean toward the traditionally functionality of the Palio

Have you tried the Xikar X8? Might suite your needs of a conventional style cutter. Super sharp and great price.

I prefer the Xikar, own both, both work as a cutter is designed to, both have a lifetime warranty. I just love the feel of my Xikar in my hands its more comfortable for me so I use it almost all the time. My .02

When i first got my xikar i found myself fumbling around with it, using my fingers to sqeeze the cut, quickly learned that a inside the palm grasp provides alot more control.

Yeah, I finally got the knack of it, but I do believe the traditional format is a bit easier. I may have to take a look at the Xikar X8

I definitely love the xikar Xi cutters. I have the xi2 and it is in my pocket at all times.

I haven't used the Palio cutter so I can't say which I think is better but I love my xikar that's for sure.

I have a Xikar X3 and a plastic body one that was a freebie with a 5er years ago. I love them both. One of the redwood handles came loose once after a drop, but it snapped back on and stays in place. Never used a Palio.

I have a Palio, a Lotus, and a Drew Estate Bulletproof cutter. Of the three, I find I like the bulletproof the best, as I like to press the cigar firmly into the metal back which yields a really clean cut. With the Palio, I also press the cigar firmly (into my thumb) but wonder each time i cut when I will catch some skin!

I have a Xikar Xi1 cutter and a palio. I prefer the compactness of the xikar and is a better on the go lighter but in prefer the cutting functionality of the Palio as it's just easier for me to use this style of cutter. The xikar can cut a larger ring guage cigar than the Palio...my Palio can comfortably cut up to a 56 ring guage and the xikar can cut up to apprx. a 60 ring guage.

I need to invest in a good cutter. Glad I found this post.
