What's this stuff on this Ashton VSG Eclipse?

It had it when I pulled it out of the tube and it was brand new. Maybe a naive question but just curious.

Not sure if you are saying us people that are calling it mold are wrong, but all the info you need is from the picture posted above, and the picture in your first link. Take this thread as education to see what mold looks like above, and what plume looks like in the first link you posted. Mold is splotchy/uneven clumps like the pic above. Plume is more of a crystalized/sparkly even dusting, hardly visible to the eye.

And for the record, I am absolutely 100% confident it is mold.

Calixto, no offense but you're providing bad information. Even from the thread you linked to, it says: "Mold has a bluish tint and tends to develop in spots rather than evenly across the surface of a cigar, as plume does." Have another look at the pictures. As several other veteran smokers have said, that is mold. 99% of the time someone posts one of these threads, it's mold. The old 'if you have to ask...' adage applies.

We can agree to disagree. As both of the links stated if it can be wiped off, it's not mold. I have seen plume form in a dusted pattern and in spots like the OP's photo.
wow dude, we are trying to be helpful yet you don't care to learn. No skin off my back... this is why I don't like to even look at these threads as it's the same old story over and over. But I like to help educate noobs and FOGs alike that don't know or have the experience. I'm honestly shocked that this debate exists as it's black and white to me.

We can agree to disagree. I'll defer to the vets here though. If the cigar is fine either way then it's not really worth squabbling over.
There's a deeper lesson here though when it comes to tubos. This happens way too often when cigars are left in tubes for my liking, so I either remove them entirely (most often) or at least store them with the caps removed..

The absolute easiest way to tell if it's mold or plume is what Aloha said. Plume sparkles in the light. Mold is "hairy", even white mold. D-boy just needs to hold it up in the light and turn it. If it sparkles it's plume. However, from the pictures this sure looks like white mold.

Never liked tubos for storing. Great for travel, but poor for storing.

In my over 20+ years of enjoying cigars, the picture posted by dboy is mold. Simple rule of thumb, if its hairy it's mold. If its crystalline (oils solidified) its plume. Plume is good. Mold is very bad.

If mold is only on the wrapper, wipe it off and enjoy. If its in the foot of the cigar, sorry, no way I'd smoke it.

This means that almost every so called case of plume I've seen has been mold. Which begs the question: how bad is the mold for your cigar?
As long as it's not on the foot and it's white mold it's fine, just wipe it off.
