  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So ok ive gotten tongue bite from my pipes. I know tongue bite happens when I smoke my pipes too fast. The heat creates steam from the moisture in the tobacco which ends up coming thru the stem with the smoke and fries the shit out of my taste buds. I understamd that so I dry my baccy longer and puff slower. No more tongue bite.

My question, why dont I get tongue bite from cigars? I smoke them like a freight train. Ive smoked over humidified cigars that have swollen and exploded from too much moisture. Why no tongue bite? No tongue bite = no steam, correct? Why no steam? Why no tongue bite?

Dammit I wanna know.

Thanx for listening.

I've never had tongue bite but have always wondered what it was until now. When I hear my pipe gurgle I run a pipe cleaner down it then keep smoking but I'm like you I burn the hell out of a cigar and that's why I don't smoke very many lanceros. Great question I wanna know now myself.

I wonder if you could get tongue bite from a cigar if you used those retarded little cigar holders I always see at the B&M?

I also wondered the same thing. It makes sense to me...all the products of combustion being concentrated through one small hole. It would be interesting to know if pipe tobaccos typically burn hotter than cigars. I perceive that they do.

It would also be interesting to take a cigar and break it up into the same size as pipe tobacco and smoke it in a pipe....toke on it and see if you get bit.

Perhaps some of the moisture from smoking a cigar is more easily dissipated since it is not confined in a bowl and gravity fed to the bottom through a pinhole towards your tongue, also could have to do with different tobaccos, Virginia's bite me much more than others in a pipe

I was kinda wondering if the moisture dissapated thru the wrapper as it burned.
