  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I have been thinking about trying the pipe. My dad always smoked one and the smell always reminds me of him. He only smoked Borkum riff wiskey or bourbon flavored It came in a black can. When I was growing up anywhere in our house where dad spent anytime was an ashtray with a cork and pipe tools. I never really thought it was for me but lately I have been thinking maybe I would like it. I don`t like flavored cigars so I don`t know if I would like flavored tobacco, any suggestions? also was wondering about pipes, I see some that go for hundreds and I see dr grabows that could be had for $25 or $30. Do those pipes smoke well? is the difference just the art? Also if I would try flavored tobacco will it leave the pipe tasting like that?

nothing wrong with curiosity, or wanting to learn, and i hope you enjoy the hell out of it if you go that route! and, of course, there will be people here to hit up if you have any issues.

-aro tobacco for pipes is much different than flavored or infused cigars. totally worth trying, including your dad's old cavendish. not my cup of coffee, but a lot if guys dig it. then again, there are worlds of tobaccos that have little casing and no topping, so basically just the properties of that tobacco.

-high end pipes do (and damn well should) smoke great, but i have a couple DrG's and kaywoodies i love. hell, for a cost effective "training wheels" pipe, get a cob.

-"ghosting" a pipe is when it tastes like a prior tobacco. some tobacco does it more than others. some people notice it more than others. don't worry about it until you know if pipe is for you, and what you want out of it. by that point, there are ways of cleaning a briar to remove old ghosts.

I would say to start with a cob and make sure you stay with it for a bit. It can take a couple weeks to break in a cob good and it also is a fine art to pack and smoke a pipe. It literally took me a couple months to get a feel for it. If you decide you like it there are some good pipes to be had in the $60 - 100 range. Nording is one of my favorites for the price and smokes good from the start.

Exactly. Virtually no ghosting. So u can experiment with diffetent baccys and its cheap so if u burn it out, who cares.

So I got an ounce of Penzance from a fellow botl and I put it in a clean sterile mason jar and seals well as I was packing all the jars I opened them shook the tobacco a lil bit and noticed it has a few white spots on it I'm going to assume it could be mold???? Do I toss the white spot tobacco or the whole jar? ???
Its just on the Penzance. I've had other tobaccos sitting here way longer with no issues???

The last 2 bags of Penzance I've bought had this too. I could be wrong, but I think it's just crystallization on the VA leaf in the blend. My bags taste & smoke great & were both factory sealed when I bought them. I wouldn't worry too much about it.
