Here is a link to David Garofalo's facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/david.garofalo.35

Here is the message I sent him, feel free to copy and paste it with your name if you're so inclined. He comments on the cigars on his page.

Dear Mr. Garofalo,

Etc....

My sentiments exactly and I will be doing a very similar email to Mr. Garofalo also. The people on the other side of the fence will use and also twist anything they can to get their way. WE (cigar industry) DO NOT NEED TO HELP THEM. A notice of and actual boycott should be in place until this marketing scheme is ditched.

Hello BOTL

Wow! Finally recognition on this board but unfortunately it was terrible. Some really tough and horrible statements worded in the past 3 pages and I am surprised at some in this group for some of it. Anyway, I was alerted to this thread Saturday morning just before The Cigar Authority aired and I responded at the beginning of the show, as some of your comments, I must admit, it got me going (I shouldn't have let that happen). Check it out if you want to hear my side of the story. As for those who gave me their opinions, I appreciate most of them and was insulted by others but I understand your thoughts but I stand by my decision. Obviously, those who know me understand I would never intend to hurt another retailer, I will always try to help them.

I'm not going to get into the back and forth here, I like to sit on the sidelines on these forums and let the consumers take the stage. I usually like reading them, although this was was tough to get through I must admit. Please don't take my lack of responding any further on this subject as an insult or that I don't care...I certainly do care.

I hope I spelled everything correctly.

Dave

Do you have a link for the Cigar Authority thing? I am interested in listening to it. I happen to think there is nothing wrong with your packaging, but I also understand where these guys have issues with it, especially considering that the FDA is looking for anything to use against our community.

Wow! Finally recognition on this board
Perhaps your site would have more recognition from this community if you posted more than twice in the past 3 years. Just an observation.

Hey Dave. I actually started listening to the podcast this morning before you came on here and responded. I stopped, decided a 2 hour podcast would be better spent listening on a 4 hour guard shift lol. Thus I will continue listening tonight. I personally don't have a stand on this either way...I can understand both sides of the coin. However, anyone that goes public and stands by his decisions as opposed to going sheep and making excuses for making those decisions has my respect.

Did you see the "cigar bar" cigar size, !!!!!6 x 70!!!!!, YURZ.

But to the OP, yeah don't really see the point in this. As a cigar smoker I do not like my cigars masqueraded as candy.

David Garofalo responded to my message, he was very kind and understood the position many have taken in this thread. He says he's not going to pull them completely but hinted that he might pull them from the internet. I thank him very much for responding and taking our concerns to heart.

Finished listening to the first part and I will start by saying that I haven't commented on this thread before today (and haven't read through it) because i don't care how he packages and promotes his cigars (and by his I mean the cigars he is selling, not inferring he is making them....). HOWEVER, responding the way he did was inappropriate and in very poor taste. For them to call the people here morons, scared, cowards, etc. is just disrespectful and takes away from any valid arguments they made, in my opinion.

Lol I'm checking it out now and I think both sides have very valid points for their actions and statements. It's a matter of position and opinions. He says he fights for it and others think he's making his own fight more difficult. So yeah it can go either way.

To that other guy tho....I gotchya coward right here. Don't talk shit about people you don't know.

I couldn't listen to more than the first 5 minutes. All he seemed concerned with was how his shop has not gotten into trouble in over 25 years with local authorities. Nothing about how this product may very well end up being passed around some legislative chamber or health-board council in the middle of Wyoming or NYC (more likely) to garner votes against the sale/display/etc. of premium cigars. I've seen this many times with electronic cigarettes... which produce NO SMOKE at all. These things in-fact do smoke and burn. Of course he should be able to sell whatever he wants.. but I don't think it's so simple anymore.

I'm watching the first 20 minutes of the show now. A few notes:

1. We are not saying or insinuating that 2 Guys is marketing to minors, we are saying candy packaging, when developed, was marketed to children. Therefore, cigars packaged as candy can be constued as being marketed to minors, regardless of what you intended.

2. Tootsie Rolls are still being sold in jars, go to WalMart and see.

3. You should explain yourself to your customers, you don't have to, but you should.

4. How do we know you created these cigars? We know because you sent out the email, with your picture, holding the cigars, telling us these are your cigars that you are trying to sell, directing us back to your site in order to buy the cigars from you.

5. We are not cowards--no one uses real names on forums. I emailed you, with my real name. The majority of us on here would do the same, especially when they hear Mr. Jonathan call us cowards.

6. It'll take a lot more than you to keep premium cigars out of FDA control. We're all in this together, you've told us that. Why do you think you can do it on your own now? And why do you think the rest of us should shut up and support you?

7. This is not just fun for you. You are making money off these cigars. How much do I think you're making off of a $3.33 3X50 generic maduro in cheap packaging? I don't know but probably more than you're making off of a lot of your inventory. However, I have no reason to doubt it was fun for you.

8. Most of us do not have the time to visit state houses, etc. on behalf of the industry because we have other jobs, jobs that pay us the money we need to buy your cigars and donate to the CRA. Those of us on this board give more than our fair share, much more.

9. To say that we should shut up and thank you is ignorant and egocentric. The people on this board are your backbone, and the backbone of the industry. Without us there is no industry, you should listen to us without insulting us. BUT.... we do thank you for all you've done.

I let it keep playing in the background while I worked and his co-host really can't get over the fact that people on forums use different handles and not their re-names. Just they take stabs at calling everyone cowards and such a few times.

The guy is not speaking intelligently enough to be taken serious . X cigar forum's populace has a huge majority of handles for names, so this hiding coward crap is bs . secondly , i kinda agree its really no big deal to make tootsie roll cigars around Halloween , So why punch down so hard on us when the point is just over the paranoia surrounding smoking rights . Dont think this was ever meant to be personal attack Bro . Just honest criticism ...
