Cigar: Asylum 13 Ogre
Size: 7 x 70
Retail Price: $8.50

Appearance & Feel: The candela & habano maduro wrappers are absolutely flawless and the Ogre is one of the most visually stunning barber poles I have ever seen. The stick has a very smooth almost glassy feel and has the firmest, densest pack I have ever felt in a cigar.

Pre-Light: The cigar exhibits a faint aroma of grass, hay and mild tobacco.

First Draw: I originally used a punch on the cigar, but the draw was so snug I opened it up with cutter. Right away I experienced flavors of grass, hay and mild tobacco with a mild body. The cigar is big & bulky and draws a lot of looks from passers by, but it is not too big or uncomfortable to hold in your hand or mouth.

1st 3rd: Similar flavors to the first draw with the addition of black tea leaves now in the mix. There is a slight tobacco sweetness which is pleasant and not overbearing. The draw is still quite snug, but the cigar is putting out plenty of smoke

2nd 3rd

Unexpectedly the burn is quite good, I would have thought as the cigar proceeded through the different wrappers it would burn at an uneven rate requiring frequent touch ups, but that was not the case. The ash held on for only about an inch, perhaps due to the weight. I have detected two additional flavors that have appeared one of a light toast and the other of smoked almonds. Both add a pleasant accompaniment to the existing flavor profile. The stick is still holding at a mild body.

Final 3rd

The flavor profile has shifted to some wood flavors predominantly cedar and a light cola flavor. I had to touch up the burn as it got down toward the label. The body remained mild from start to finish.

Burn Time: 3 Hours & 50 minutes!

Summary: For those of you who like full bodied cigars this stick is not for you. Those who like mild-medium bodied cigars may really enjoy this stick. You just need to make sure you have half a day to devote to this behemoth. Luckily I was outside at a motorcycle show all day so I had the time to enjoy it and it was a great conversation starter with show goers and attendees. I never really got tired of smoking the big cigar, because I really enjoyed the flavors, but if this stick were available in a toro or robusto I could see smoking it on a regular basis. However, at 7 x 70 I think this might be a once or twice a year smoke.

Score: 7.5 out of 10.

Nice review. I don't think I could ever smoke one of those things, but kudos on the review man!
