  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Found this through another site and thought it was really cool. I'm happy to say that at 31 I've done a surprisingly large number of these things, makes me think my life isn't so boring after all. But the best thing for me was seeing things that have been on my bucket list for a long time show up on this list. Things like attending the Monaco Grand Prix have been a dream of mine as long as I can remember.

Interesting list, and I'd love to do a lot of things on it, but it seems remarkably shallow. "Leave a legacy" it says, but there are only a handful of suggestions (five out of a hundred) that would allow you to do that. Mostly it's just a list of luxuries that anyone would love to do, but that do nothing towards leaving a legacy.

Ive got 9 of their top 10 already checked off... and the "see a volcano" isnt real high on my personal list (although I do think it would be cool..)...

I dont do so well with #'s 11-20... only got 2 of those covered so far..

Whats the #1 thing on everyones bucket list? maybe between the BOTL network we could arrange for some of those "dreams" to become realities (lots of people here in a wide variety of career fields.. with a broad spectrum of contacts, etc..etc..)...

I'm checking a big one off the list later this year.. when the wife and I go run with the bulls in Pamplona in July..

The next big item on the list... is I want to figure out a way to stand up a self sustaining educational program (maybe a school house) in a really poor/disprivileged community in Nica (lots of work to do there.. not just securing the funding.. but also getting the right people, resources, etc.. in place as well)... would like to see that happen (or at least begin to happen) before the end of 2014..

Top on my list of "dreams" would have been to know my mother.

I actually took Skydiving off my bucket list recently, but besides that there hasn't been much progression.

In the realm of possibilities, my number one is I'd like to go on a vacation for once, everything I do is always for work or school, just once I'd like to be able to relax on a trip. Maybe to Europe or Australia? My family's from England so maybe there? Not sure where just yet. Ehh it's a thing. Hah maybe the Bahamas? Everyone wants to go there. I've never been able to set it as a priority, funds have to go to my constantly increasing in price education or to work, or to helping others.

I like that list, though a lot of it are things I'd never even consider, like going 1000 feet into a cave for crystals. As for your concerns about legacy? I think having a son and teaching him everything you know without yelling, with love and not aggression, without raising a hand, and being able to truly be proud of everything you've accomplished in front of him / her without a single worry about what others might think of such things? That's truly going to leave a lasting legacy more than anything. Being a real dad.

It's a good list, but some reservations. I've been to Rome & seen the Colosseum. While the ruin is interesting, there is not a lot to do there, and it has become something of a tourist trap with peddlers, beggars, guys posting in gladiator outfits for tips, etc. So, if you are going to Rome, by all means see it, but it would not make a special bucket trip of just that. I will say Rome itself is fantastic but much more for the people, the food, the atmosphere, etc. so that should be the bucket list item.

I've never been, but I've also heard the same about the pyramids in Egypt.

Those were two items that I've not done but want to, just so that I can say I've seen them. I have no desire to go skydiving or run a marathon. The "no intention to do it" category is comprised of items I either don't want to do or know that my fear of heights would prevent me from doing them.

totally agree.. if youre going to Rome.. you have to spend some time there... but its really not that big a deal.. there were other things I enjoyed a whole lot more (like renting scooters, driving all over the city and trying to not get killed in the process :) )...

Personally.. if someone is planning on doing Italy for a vacation.. my recommendation is to land in Rome.. spend 48 hours there and see all the "big" stuff.. then hop a train straight to Florence... and spend the rest of your vacation there.. Florence and the surrounding parts of Tuscany is one of my favorite places on the planet.. truly awesome..

I've never been, but I've also heard the same about the pyramids in Egypt.
The pyramids are 10x worse than the Colosseum... lots of touristy crap around (sit on a camel and get your picture taken sort of stuff).. and frankly, the area surrounding the pyramids is outright disgusting.. extremely dirty.. trash everywhere.. etc.. it actually smells like a garbage dump when the wind blows (which is all the time..)....the Egyptians should be ashamed of how little care they have taken in preserving one of the monuments of their once great empire..

the pyramids themselves are pretty cool when you consider what went into building them.. the challenges that must have been faced.. etc..

but... there are hundreds of things Ive seen (many of which are right here in the good ole US of A..) that impressed me more than the pyramids...

That's so true. We often forget some of the great antural and man-made features in this country. Hell, just some of the exploring that happened in our early years.

And the"drink a scotch older than you are" was a helluva lot easier when I was 18!
Exactly what I was thinking!

Half this stuff I have 0 interest in. What I would rather do is:

Pamplona Bull Run
Sevilla Bull Fight
Learn to roll my own cigar
Distill my own Gin
Attend a performance of the Berlin Philharmonic (Preferably "The Planets")
Watch Newcastle United win a derby at Saint James Park
Take make my house 100% off the grid

Top on my bucket list:

Drive a motorcycle at high speed off a cliff, and then parachute to the bottom.

...unfortunately, I don't see that actually happening, but seriously... how awesome would that be?

I think I've seen this list before and have admittedly done or seen at least 30 and it seems there is still a lot for me to do.
